Qualcomm Hires Outgoing U.S. Attorney

Qualcomm Inc. has appointed outgoing U.S. Attorney Carol C. Lam as senior vice president and legal counsel. Lam will manage and direct the technology company’s litigation worldwide.

Lam most recently made headline news when she announced her resignation from her post as U.S. attorney for the Southern District of California last month, and for her involvement in the corruption prosecution of former U.S. Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham.

In a public statement, Louis Lupin, executive vice president and general counsel for Qualcomm, said Lam’s work has earned her a national reputation as one of the top prosecutors in the country.

“After more than two decades of outstanding public service, she is widely respected for her wisdom, judgment, integrity and courage,” said Lupin in the release. “Carol’s success and experience in managing complex litigation and large legal teams will be instrumental in shaping and managing Qualcomm’s considerable worldwide litigation.”

Lam was appointed to be the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of California in 2002 and was criticized for her record in prosecuting firearm violations and crime along the border.

Lam will start her leadership post with Qualcomm on Feb. 26.
