Verimatrix on the Move

Verimatrix Inc., a local security software company, announced Dec. 4 its move to Mira Mesa.

The 45-employee company is now located in a 16,545-square-foot building at 6825 Flanders Drive.

The company was formerly based at 6650 Lusk Blvd. in a 7,000-square-foot building.

The new headquarters will consolidate its research and development team, customer service, marketing and executive management under one roof.

Verimatrix expects the new building will allow it to increase its work force by 50 percent next year.

“Most of the company’s growth has been in the past year to year and a half,” Tom Munro, chief executive officer of Verimatrix, said.

The Internet protocol, or IP, television market has really taken off, according to Munro.

“To make the IP television industry work, we must develop good anti-hacking measures,” he said.

He credits the industry for helping Verimatrix expand, though the market itself is still in a juvenile state.

Munro has been with the company for a little more than one year and said the company used to focus on creating software to protect its clients against music piracy.

Approximately 80 percent of Verimatrix’s business comes from its international customers.

The company has sales and customer service offices to support its 70 telephone company customers that have customers using IP television in dense housing areas.

These offices include Boston; Atlanta; London; Vienna, Austria; Singapore; and Tokyo.

Combined, Verimatrix’s customers have more than 1 million subscribers to their IP television services, Munro said.

Verimatrix said it does not have any IP television customers in San Diego.
