Gateway Asset Management of San Diego has completed renovations at Magnolia Plaza in El Cajon, a 55,000-square-foot showroom retail center occupied by such tenants as In-N-Out Burger, Go Pizza and Verizon Wireless. Renovations included landscape and signage upgrades, and a new 3,500-square-foot building.

Cost: $1 million.

Starret Construction has begun work on a 14,634-square-foot office building for W. Kent Jessee & Associates in Carlsbad. The three-story Spanish-style building consists of two wood-framed levels built over one level of concrete masonry and steel-framed parking. Construction is scheduled for completion in October.
Cost: $1.8 million.

Johnson & Jennings General Contracting of San Diego has started tenant improvements of the existing 94,703-square-foot headquarters of DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary law firm in the Wells Fargo Plaza in Downtown San Diego.
The construction includes a mock courtroom and jury selection room for trial preparation.
Cost: $6.2 million.
