SAIC Buys Homeland Security Firm

San Diego-based Science Applications International Corp. announced plans Aug. 23 to acquire Geo-Centers, Inc. for an undisclosed price.

The deal also includes the purchase of Geo subsidiaries EAI Corp. and Focis Associates, Inc., and is expected to close next month, pending customary closing conditions.

“I believe the combination of our existing human resources, expertise and market presence blended with SAIC’s breadth of resources and technical diversity will provide increased opportunities for growth of our employees and organization,” said Ed Marram, founder and chief executive officer of Geo, which is based in Massachusetts.

Ken Dahlberg, SAIC’s chairman and chief executive officer, said the acquisition will mean a higher level of service and solutions for the company’s security and defense clients.

Geo is an engineering and professional services firm that provides research and development for chemical and biological detection; infrastructure assessment and protection; life science research; rapid response equipment and support; and sensor systems. It employs more than 1,100 people.

Like SAIC, many of Geo’s current customers include the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security.

SAIC is an employee-owned research and engineering company and is the largest high-tech defense contractor based in San Diego.
