Specializing in interior design for multi-functional spaces, San Diego-based Space Functional Interior Design Solutions Inc. is taking the TableBed on the road and getting a good response.

The TableBed is like a Murphy bed that pulls down from the wall. It is a free-standing piece of furniture that is a table during the day, with a bed that folds down at night.

The local dealer says it’s ideal for people living in lofts and studio apartments , now popular in Downtown San Diego , and others attempting to maximize their space.

Interior designer Beverly Feldman, Space’s president, said the TableBed received a lot of attention at the recent Landscape and Interior Design Expo at the San Diego Convention Center.

“It solves the problem of having heavy furniture in front of a Murphy bed,” Feldman said.

People at the expo were also interested in the TableBed for their second bedrooms, which they might normally use as offices or project rooms. Also, parents are interested in the product for their children’s rooms, so they can take the beds with them when they go off to college dorm rooms.

The TableBed is available in three models, ranging in price from $3,000 to $6,000. It was offered at the expo and at the Home and Garden Show in Del Mar the following weekend for a discounted price.

New York City-based Inova LLC manufactures the TableBed, created by furniture designer Loren Sherman.
