Client Intake Now a Little Easier at McKenna

Client Intake Now a Little Easier at McKenna

Member of City Attorney’s Office Goes to Private Firm

Lawyers and clerks in the San Diego office of McKenna & Cuneo LLP have thrown away the paper and taken up technology for one of the firm’s most time-consuming procedures , new client intake.

The firm’s offices nationwide have implemented business process management software into the intake process, largely considered one of the most cumbersome and administrative intensive processes for the firm.

The e-work software, produced by Severna Park, Maryland-based Metastorm, creates a new application with an electronic form for each activity, which can be launched from the company’s Intranet system. Legal files can be given an account number within seconds, and as each action is completed, the data is automatically entered into the firm’s disparate systems.

“Paper no longer resides on attorney’s desks, but becomes part of the digital environment and communications strategy they use,” said Bob Lamy, McKenna & Cuneo’s information technology director. “It’s been especially useful in customizing a procedure for our new Toxic Tort practice on the West Coast, as they have been receiving an undocumented volume of new matters to deal with.”
