Teamwork Athletic Apparel, a B2B sportswear manufacturer and retailer located in San Marcos, has filed a notice with the state employment department stating it will permanently lay off up to 90 employees. The terminated positions include customer service representatives and material bundlers, among others.
Kenneth Koch, general manager for Teamwork Athletic Apparel, said the layoffs are as a result of rationalizing due to the company being acquired recently. He added that the company will focus less on stocked apparel and more on a process called dye sublimation, which means it won’t have a need for a big warehouse and warehouse employees. Dye sublimation is a digital process used to embed color straight into the fabric. A lot of Division One teams prefer sublimated apparel today because of its ability to achieve radical designs, said Koch.
Last September, North Carolina-based Founder Sports Group, which includes Badger Sport, Alleson Athletic and Garb Athletics, announced it would be acquiring Teamwork, although financial terms weren’t disclosed.
Founded in 1987, Teamwork will keep and potentially grow its manufacturing plant in San Luis de Colorado, Mexico, according to Koch.
