The Magnolia State Christened at General Dynamics NASSCO

General Dynamics NASSCO was scheduled to christen the tanker Magnolia State on Saturday, April 23.

The 610-foot ship is the second of five tankers NASSCO is building for American Petroleum Tankers. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The ship is based on NASSCO’s ECO design, which is billed as more fuel-efficient than its counterparts. American Petroleum Tankers will be able to convert the ship to liquefied natural gas fuel at its option.

The 50,000 deadweight ton tanker has a 330,000-barrel cargo capacity.

The General Dynamics (NYSE: GD) unit builds new ships at its yard in Barrio Logan. It also repairs ships, mostly for the U.S. Navy.
