Youths Gain Skills to Help Them Succeed

With the recent increase of violent shootings occurring in San Diego high schools, it’s more important than ever to rectify all negative aspects youths perceive of today’s society and replace them with positive ones.

A local nonprofit operation S.O.Y.L. (Save Our Youths Lives) is doing just that. Earlier this month with the help of On Broadway Event Center (OBEC), a meeting/special event center and nightclub in San Diego, 20 disadvantaged youth received a taste of the fine dining and etiquette skills they need to succeed in mainstream society after graduating from high school.

“The fine dining and etiquette workshop is a great way to acknowledge the involvement of our local communities’ youth in positive programs, as well as recognize the efforts one business is making to improve the lives of our nation’s future and reach their goals,” said

Loran Kelley, president of operations, S.O.Y.L., Inc.

Founded on Feb. 1, 2001 and located in National City, Operation S.O.Y.L. is dedicated to the empowerment and education of today’s youth, by facilitating individual, group and leadership counseling sessions of which awareness of self and life’s positive opportunities are the key ingredients to helping them reach their potential.

“Our primary objective ideally is to assist America’s youth in being productive citizens while being focused and humble in today’s demanding and challenging society,” Kelley said.

Located in the heart of Downtown San Diego at 615 Broadway, the 25,000-square-foot On Broadway Event Center is an upscale meeting and special event center by day and a hip dance club by night.
