Xenonics Posts Bigger Loss, Shares Rise

San Diego-based Xenonics Holdings Inc., an advanced lighting technology company, reported earnings on Aug. 14 for the quarter ending June 30.

Revenue for the quarter was $1 million with a net loss of 11 cents per share. For the same quarter last year, revenue was $855,000 with net loss of 4 cents per share.

The loss was widened seemingly because of increased selling and administrative costs.

Xenonics separately said that is has shipped the NightHunter3 weapons-mounted illumination system to the Army for evaluation. Xenonics said it may initially provide up to 70,000 such systems to the Army.

Procurement will begin in the fourth quarter.

Xenonics is traded on the American Stock Exchange under the symbol XNN. Shares rose 24 percent to close at $2.19 on Aug. 14.
