The Arrowhead Group’s Contractors’ Choice product will expand to include workers’ compensation coverage for all commercial and residential general contractors and subcontractor programs.
Founded in San Diego over 15 years ago by Pat Kilkenny, Arrowhead General Insurance Agency, Inc. has served as a virtual insurance company. That is, the company has collaborated with about 15 nationwide insurance companies to serve as a general agency, providing insurance coverage in four broad areas.
Starting out with connections to simple auto insurance companies in 1984, Arrowhead added a homeowners product, covering earthquakes, in 1995 after the Northridge earthquake of 1994.
Arrowhead maintained its status in San Diego, posting fiscal 1999 revenues of $102 million. The company expanded its coverage to include commercial auto and business insurance in 1997. Since then, the group has rapidly added several products such as professional liability packages and contractors and subcontractors coverage.
These insurance amenities are available through Arrowhead’s connections with companies such as Clarendon National Insurance, based in New York; QBE Insurance Corp. of Sydney, Australia; and most recently began collaborating on workers’ compensation with Legion Insurance Co. of Philadelphia.
As one of the few locally based insurance agencies, Arrowhead employs more than 200 people in its Downtown office. According to Thom Mudrick, director of public relations, the agency is looking to create its own insurance company, Sorrento Insurance, in the coming year, while still maintaining their agency status, tying together policies from 16 companies as well as its own.
