Williams-Sonoma, Inc. announced that the opening of its first West Elm store in San Diego will take place on April 21 in Mission Valley.
West Elm is a retailer of furniture, similar to Williams-Sonoma’s Pottery Barn brand, but marketed to a more value-oriented consumer. Price points at West Elm range from $19 to $399.
The brand was launched in summer 2002, and its sales take place predominantly through its catalog and on the Internet.
The location in Mission Valley at 5080 Mission Center Road will be one of only five retail locations across the country. The store will feature almost 20,000 square feet, making it the same size as the flagship store in Manhattan.
In addition to the product that is currently available through the West Elm catalog, the Mission Valley store will carry different designs within tabletop, textile, and decorative accessory collections.
The first West Elm retail location opened in Brooklyn, N.Y. in November 2003.
West Elm’s flagship store is in Manhattan, with additional retail locations in Brooklyn, Oakbrook, Ill., and Corte Madera. Williams-Sonoma said it plans to open seven additional West Elm stores in 2005.
