The Westin Horton Plaza San Diego hotel is changing its name to the Westin Gaslamp Quarter in a move to capitalize on the distinction of the downtown entertainment district.
“The hotel’s name change is in direct response to the growing international awareness of the city’s historic Gaslamp Quarter, which is quickly becoming known as a destination within the destination of San Diego,” said Doug Korn, the hotel’s general manager.
The hotel faces Broadway on the north side of Westfield Horton Plaza shopping mall. It contains 450 rooms and is one of six downtown hotels that carry brands of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. of White Plains, N.Y.
Starwood plans to make an official announcement and provide other details of the name change on March 31.
