Water Department Pipeline Project Set to Start

Water Department Pipeline Project Set to Start

The San Diego Water Department has announced it will begin building a pipeline at Black Mountain Road early next month.

The $32.5 million project will be funded mostly by water rates and revenue bonds. Construction is expected to conclude in mid-2003.

The city will install a drinking water pipeline and a reclaimed water pipeline to meet current needs and future growth. The project will start at Westview Parkway near Mira Mesa Boulevard and will head north toward Black Mountain Road, said Kristina Alexanders, a water department spokeswoman.

The 5.5-mile drinking water pipeline will serve as a backup to the existing Rancho Bernardo Pipeline, installed in 1964. The 3.8-mile reclaimed water pipeline will provide additional water for irrigation and industrial use, Alexanders said.

The two pipelines are being installed concurrently to minimize construction impacts in the nearby communities of Mira Mesa, Rancho Pe & #324;asquitos and Scripps Ranch, she said.
