Want Cheap Gas? Go East, Young Person

Just how expensive is California gas?

According to the most recent posting from fueltracker.com, a gallon of gas costs an average of $1.812 in San Diego County, up from $1.699 the week before.

That same gallon of gas costs $1.755 a gallon in Los Angeles, up from $1.635, while in Sacramento the price is $1.816, up from $1.745 the week before.

Nationwide, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is $1.529, up from $1.527 the week before.

In San Diego County, most of the gas stations charge between $1.75 and $1.85 for a gallon of regular unleaded, with few outlets selling either above or below that price range.

The least-expensive gas prices posted on the Web site are all inland, with gas retailing at $1.71 at various locations throughout El Cajon, Escondido, Lakeside and Santee.

Other than that, the only inexpensive gas to be found was either on military installations, or at sites open only to the military. Gas retails at $1.70 at the Miramar Marine Corps Air Station and $1.68 at the Autoport on Aero Drive and Santo Road.

Only three locations in San Diego County sold gasoline for more than $1.89 , Shell, at Pacific Highway and Grape Street, along with Regent, in Poway, charge $1.93 a gallon, while D & M;, in Santa Ysabel, pumped its price up to $1.99.
