Local Web developer Adam Campbell has created and launched a Web site that showcases the best of one of San Diego’s best-loved communities: Pacific Beach.
ShopPB.com provides a way for the entire world to get an intimate view of the area without even visiting. The site, launched during the last week of September, includes links to local businesses and organizations, a searchable database, photographs and a general wealth of information about Pacific Beach.
Campbell, a Pacific Beach resident and longtime Web developer, hopes that ShopPB.com will allow visitors to find information about the area with ease. After becoming fed up with so-called “local” Web sites that were too general, Campbell decided to create a specific Web site for the 92109 ZIP code.
There is a full business directory including a business’ name, type, address, phone number, payment accepted and directions. Surf and weather conditions, updated daily, are accessible via the site. Information on local schools, apartments and parks is also available.
The site also offers free classified ads for anyone in the Pacific Beach area who wants to buy or sell an item online.
“Our classifieds allow images to be uploaded and displayed along with text for the ad, at no charge to buyers or sellers,” Campbell said. “ShopPB.com is the only online area guide in San Diego that offers this service free.”
Campbell hopes that ShopPB.com and his future projects compete with major Internet city guide services.
Campbell has financed this entire venture himself thus far. While the initial community response has not been overwhelming, Campbell expects that business will pick up with a little advertising.
“ShopPB.com reflects one of the most vibrant communities in Southern California,” Campbell reflects. “Now people from around the world can log on and find out why.”
