Viejas Official Named to Federal Panel

Norman DesRosiers, a tribal gaming commissioner for the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians, was appointed to the National Indian Gaming Commission by U.S. Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne, according to a notice released Dec. 6.

The three-year appointment is the first time a tribal gaming commissioner was appointed to the NIGC, which has broad regulatory authority over tribal gaming in this country.

DesRosiers, 57, has served as commissioner for the Viejas tribe since 1998. The commission oversees, manages, inspects, and audits the gaming operations for the Viejas Casino, near Alpine in the eastern section of San Diego County.

Before taking his position with Viejas, DesRosiers was executive director of the San Carlos Apache Gaming Commission and supervisor of casino inspectors at the Ft. McDowell Tribal Gaming Commission, both in Arizona.
