Earl Jacobsen, a volunteer counselor and vice president of programs for Score, was honored with the President’s Volunteer Service Award.
The award was presented by the San Diego County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program on behalf of the Corporation for National and Community Service and the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation.
Jacobsen was recognized for devoting more than 4,000 hours of volunteer service to the San Diego chapter of Score.
The Service Corps of Retired Executives is comprised of more than 11,000 volunteers and about 400 chapters nationwide. The San Diego chapter has 80 volunteers, current and retired business owners and business experts who serve as counselors, advisers and mentors to entrepreneurs and business owners.

The American Cancer Society’s San Diego office hosted its annual Community Salute to acknowledge volunteers, donors and community partners in the fight against cancer.
Jane Haggerty of Haggerty Com & #173;muni & #173;cations was honored with an Ambassador of Hope Award for her 15 years of service.
Stacy Matseaus was named Volunteer of the Year for her work on Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, a walk to help fight breast cancer.
The UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center was named Healthcare Partner of the Year for its participation and collaboration in a number of patient service and educational programs.
Qualcomm Inc. was honored with the Corporate Circle of Hope Award for its assistance in fund raising and participation in corporate wellness programs.
BAE Systems National Security Solutions was honored with a corporate Spirit of Giving Award.
Representatives from KYXY FM and NBC 7/39 were presented with Media Circle of Hope awards.

Susan Nowakowski, president and chief executive officer of AMN Healthcare, has been honored with San Diego Habitat for Humanity’s first Groundbreaking Award.
Nowakowski was recognized for her efforts and accomplishments that have made significant opportunities for others and have empowered them to succeed within the San Diego community.

The American Academy of Ophthalmology has presented Perry Binder, a San Diego ophthalmologist, with its Lifetime Achievement Honor Award for his contributions to the industry.
The academy is the largest national membership association of medical doctors who provide comprehensive eye care, with more than 7,000 members, according to its Web site.

Patti Perez, founder and president of Puente Consulting, received the Cesar Chavez Community Service Award during the 11th annual Multicultural Prism Awards produced by Minorities in Business magazine.
The award honors those who have served a public life in America’s communities and have shown outstanding service to the multicultural community.

Daniel Tucker, chairman of the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, was the honorary chairman of Gingerbread City 2006 by the Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County.
The event raised more than $190,000 to support free services offered by the foundation.
