The United Jewish Federation of San Diego County dedicated and moved into the Joseph & Lenka Finci United Jewish Federation Building on October 30.
The 15,000-square-foot office space will combine the UJF’s previous San Diego administrative and function offices into one central location in Kearny Mesa.
More than $3.6 million was raised in donations for the office building. The Viterbi Family offered the leading gift towards the cause. Viterbi family members present at the dedication included Andrew Viterbi, co-founder of Qualcomm Inc. and Alan Viterbi, president of the San Diego Jewish Academy.
The building is named after Joseph and Lenka Finci, Sephardic Jews who moved from Europe to California in 1950. They were also the parents of Erna Viterbi.
“Joseph and Lenka Finci would not have found it important to have their name on a building,” said Alan Viterbi during the building’s dedication ceremony. “However, they would have a great sense of pride in knowing that the values they imparted to their family continued.”
UJF raises and distributes money to a variety of local agencies that service the community. Some of these agencies include the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, Jewish Family Services of San Diego, Agency for Jewish Education, Seacrest Village Retirement Community, and Hillel of San Diego.
The organization also provides scholarships and education about Israel to San Diegans, according to Elliot Wolf, marketing director for UJF.
“The (new offices) allows a better working environment and more meeting rooms,” said Wolf.
UJF’s new address is 4950 Murphy Canyon Road. The phone number is (858) 571-3444.
