In its continuing conflict with Rady Children’s Hospital and Health Center San Diego, the Service Employees International Union has filed a charge alleging unfair labor practices with the National Labor Relations Board.
The union took the action Oct. 18.
The organization, which represents nearly 700 Children’s employees, said that the hospital is refusing to bargain “in good faith” , a violation of federal labor laws.
Children’s Hospital released a statement saying it has not received nor seen the complaint.
“We have bargained in good faith for over two years and through 50 bargaining sessions. We submitted a final offer to SEIU on Aug. 30,” the statement said.
“The union has not communicated back to us whether they intend to bring our offer to their members for a vote, nor if there is a material change in their position that would trigger our returning to the negotiation table.”
SEIU offered a deal to Children’s Hospital that was rejected in early September and the hospital put another offer on the table that was rejected by the SEIU.
SEIU claims the deal it presented would have cost the same as the hospital’s offer.
The union is hosting a town hall meeting where Rep. Bob Filner, D-Chula Vista, will address the topic of poverty wages and affordable health care. The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 19 at 5150 Kearny Mesa Road.
