Unemployment Numbers Drop Locally for April

San Diego’s unemployment rate dropped once again in April to 2.6 percent, the lowest its been since last December’s 2.5 percent, according to the Employment Development Department.

Total nonfarm employment increased by 5,200 jobs between March and April, bringing the total number of payroll jobs to 1,174,900.

The two biggest industries contributing to the increase were services and retail trade, which accounted for gains of 2,600 and 1,700 jobs, respectively.

Other areas showing gains for the month were construction, and transportation/public utilities which expanded by 400 jobs each.

Manufacturing payrolls declined by 100 jobs from the previous month.
