Tonys Three: Old Globe’s O’Brien Gets Third Tony Award

Jack O’Brien, artistic director of the Old Globe in San Diego, won a Tony Award June 10 at the 2007 ceremony at Radio City Music Hall for his direction of the Broadway production “The Coast of Utopia,” by Tom Stoppard.

The play won a total of seven Tonys, including best play; best supporting actor, Billy Crudup; best supporting actress, Jennifer Ehle; best scenic design, Bob Crowley and Scott Pask; best costume design, Catherine Zuber; and best lighting design, Brian MacDevitt, Kenneth Posner and Natasha Katz.

Recently, O’Brien won the Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards for his direction of the play.

O’Brien, who has received a total of eight Tony nominations, has previously earned Tonys for his direction of Shakespeare’s “Henry IV,” in 2004, and the musical “Hairspray,” in 2003.
