‘Tis the Season

Holiday shoppers crowded the walkways of Fashion Valley Center in Mission Valley last week. A recent survey by Deloitte & Touche LLP reveals consumers remain optimistic about the economy and their job security, and are ready to spend more this year on holiday gifts. Consumers in Southern California are expected to spend an average of $752 per person this year, slightly more than last year’s average. Discount department stores continue to be the favorite venue for 80 percent of shoppers, though Internet shopping continues to grow with about 10 percent of the market. Top gift choices are apparel, toys and music CDs and tapes.
