The Name Is L-3 Titan Now

L-3 Communications announced July 29 that it had completed its acquisition of Titan Corp., renaming the entity L-3 Communications Titan Corp.

L-3 had offered $23.10 per share for the San Diego-based defense contractor.

The sale closes a chapter for Titan, which was formed in 1981 by Gene Ray, Ed Knauf and Jack McDougall. Lockheed Martin Corp. made an unsuccessful bid to acquire Titan, breaking off the relationship in 2004.

Titan had $2.05 billion in revenue during 2004.
