A Solana Beach-based company has come up with a novel concept in sunscreen , shrinking the package.
Stassi Cosmetics, Inc. is promoting its line of SPF to Go sunscreens, available in 2-ounce and 4-ounce tubes. The sunscreens also are available in single-use, half-ounce packets and are produced in a range of sun protection factors of 8, 15, 30 and 45.
CEO and company founder Scott Davis predicts the single-use packets and portable tubes will change people’s perception of sunscreen , much in the same way that the readily portable drink box and energy bar revolutionized nutritional buying patterns.
“Our packaging and one-time application concept breaks the mold of the traditional bottles and tubes , which are expensive, bulky and tend to leak,” he said. “(Our) packets fit easily in backpacks, glove compartments, purses, golf bags, briefcases and lunch boxes , essentially anywhere.”
The sunscreen itself is made with transparent zinc oxide, along with aloe vera, vitamin E, tea tree oil, allantoin and cocoa butter. The sunscreen provides protection against UVA and UVB solar radiation, and meets the UVA protection standards recommended by the American Academy of Dermatology, Davis said.
Stassi also has dedicated 2 percent of its net income toward funding the Sara Foundation ,named for Davis’ daughter, who died of childhood leukemia in 1990. The foundation is in the process of developing a ranch for terminally ill children and their families near Durango, Colo., Davis said.
SPF to Go is available at various locations throughout Southern California, with additional distribution anticipated in the Northeast and Midwest by late spring. The company is anticipating a nationwide rollout next year, he said.
The sunscreen can also be ordered online at the company Web site at (www.spftogo.com).
