State Budget Includes Local Environmental Projects

“This year’s $81 billion state budget contains some $16 million for San Diego projects, according to Assemblywoman Denise Ducheny, D-San Diego.

Among some of the largest projects are $3.25 million for the acquisition of 150 acres for park land in the Otay River Valley; $2 million for parkland in the Tia Juana River Valley; $1.75 million for city of San Diego recycled water projects; $1.5 million for outdoor science programs for low-income children; and $1.25 million for enhancements to a project in the Chollas Creek area.

Ducheny said every bill she authored this session was signed by Gov. Gray Davis.

These included bills on developing plans for a binational border health committee; funding for restoring state beaches; and creating incentives to farmers to establish farm worker housing.”
