The San Diego Association of Governments has selected seven members for the Independent Taxpayers Oversight Committee, a group tasked with monitoring and evaluating the association’s use of $14 billion in new TransNet sales tax revenues.
The committee can begin implementing TransNet’s early action program, which includes Interstate 15, state Routes 76 and 52, and construction of the trolley extension onto the campus of UC San Diego and to University Towne Centre.
The four appointed members serving for four years are Maryam Babaki of Carmel Valley; Michael Boyle of Torrey Pines; John Meyer of Escondido; and Jim Ryan of Poway.
Members serving two-year terms are Hamid Bahadori of south Orange County; James Callaghan, who lives in the East County community of Blossom Valley; and Doug Gibson of Escondido.
TransNet, the half-cent sales tax dedicated to regional transportation projects, was extended for 40 years by voters in November after the countywide passage of Proposition A.
Local elected officials appointed the new committee members.
