Andy Serwin, a partner in the San Diego office of Foley & Lardner LLP, has been named the first recipient of the 2005 US SurfAid Ambassador of the Year award by SurfAid International, a nonprofit organization.
Founded in 2000, the group was formed to improve the health and well-being of the people in Indonesia.
Serwin was selected for the annual award based on his commitment to excellence in business, the community and public service.
“My desire to support SurfAid’s mission stems from a deep concern for the health and well-being of society as a whole and the extraordinary work the organization has performed,” he said. “The effectiveness and dedication of the people involved in SurfAid is truly a model for charitable and community organizations everywhere.”
Serwin is a member of the firm’s emerging companies and venture capital, entertainment and media law team, the intellectual property litigation and e-business and information technology group.
He is the author of the Internet Marketing Law Handbook, is the incoming co-chair of the State Bar of California’s Cyberspace Law Committee, and has appeared as a commentator on technology and legal matters with USA Today, PC Magazine, and several local and regional media outlets.
