Scripps Health’s Carlsbad Medical Center Set to Open in October



Progress Report

Construction is nearing completion at Carlsbad Medical Center. The 40,655-square-foot medical office building at 2176 Salk Ave. in Carlsbad, developed by H.G. Fenton Development Co., is being built for Scripps Health. The facility is scheduled to open in October. Ledcor Construction is the contractor.

San Diego-based law firm Casey Gerry Schenk Francavilla Blatt & Penfield LLP has completed a $3 million renovation of its longtime office building at 110 Laurel St. in downtown San Diego. The 8,850-square-foot building features three remodeled conference rooms, a new library and offices. Graham Viney Architecture provided design services for the project.

Ware Malcomb has finished the design and construction of General Dynamics Nassco’s Mission Valley facility. The new facility for Nassco, the only major ship construction yard on the West Coast, is located at 7470 Mission Valley Road. The 70,000-square-foot, two-story building houses Nassco’s purchasing, finance, information systems and engineering departments. The space includes open-office workstations, private offices, a server room and conference facilities. Construction finished in February and personnel moved in March 15. Burger Construction was the general contractor on the project.

Point Loma Nazarene University plans to build a solar energy system on its campus, which would provide electricity (80 percent of peak energy) to Bond Academic Center, Cooper Music Center, the Fermanian School of Business, Golden Gymnasium, and Goodwin and Hendricks halls. PLNU has selected SPG Solar Inc. to install the 450-kilowatt system and plans to add additional systems later.

Construction is under way at Fort Hunter Liggett, an Army Reserve Center in Jolon, in southern Monterey County. San Diego-based KMA Architecture & Engineering was hired by Straub Construction Inc. to design two structures that will provide office space, training and storage areas. The structures will total 46,660 square feet.

The Center for Community Solutions, a nonprofit agency that offers a range of prevention and intervention services pertaining to sexual assault and domestic violence, says construction is complete on a major landscape project at its North County shelter. The project encompassed new trees, shrubs, potted plants and outdoor furniture.
