Santee OKs Trolley Station Shopping Center

Work will start this fall on Santee Trolley Square, a 50-acre retail and entertainment center at Cuyamaca Street and Mission Gorge Road in Santee, an official of Vestar Development Co. said.

The Santee City Council in late March approved plans for Vestar to build a stadium-seating movie theater, theme restaurants and entertainment-related retail space at the center, said Rick Kuhle, senior vice president of Vestar.

Santee owns the land, which has on it the east end of the San Diego Trolley line.

Phoenix-based Vestar has been active in San Diego County in recent years. It recently completed redevelopment of College Grove Shopping Center and also built Rancho San Diego Towne Center. It’s building the Penasquitos Village Shopping Center as well, he said.

Meanwhile, construction crews working on Phase II of Nokia’s Product Creation Center at Scripps Northridge Corporate Center, 12220 Scripps Summit Drive, celebrated completion of the building’s steel frame early this month. Kearny-Scripps, a partnership led by La Jolla-based Lankford & Associates, is developing the 135,000-square-foot facility.

Hensel Phelps Construction Co. of San Diego is the general contractor for the shell, while Bannister Steel Inc. of National City did the ironwork, said Mary D. Pampuch, a Lankford spokeswoman.

McGraw/Baldwin Architects and Davis & Davis Architects Inc., both of San Diego, designed the building’s core and shell, she said. Austin Veum Robbins Parshalle and Divan Studios of San Diego will design the tenant improvements.

Swinerton & Walberg Co. of San Diego started work early this month on a two-building, six-story office development at the intersection of Interstate 805 and Mira Mesa Boulevard.

Carrier Johnson of San Diego designed the 285,000-square-foot project for WCB Properties of Newport Beach.

It’s called Sorrento South Corporate Center and has two sites suitable for restaurants, retail space within the ground floor of the buildings and a two-story freestanding parking garage, said Rachel Grossman, a Carrier Johnson spokeswoman. County officials recently picked the architectural firm to design an 18,500-square-foot library in Rancho San Diego, she added.

Ninteman Construction Co. Inc. of San Diego has broken ground on a dental office building at 2840 Fifth Ave. for owners Larry Addleson and David Cohn.

The four-story, 14,561-square-foot facility will include ground floor parking, said Cathy Riley, a Ninteman spokeswoman.

Local architects Dwight C. Rogers and Ed Gin designed the building. Lee Palmer of Burkhart Dental Supply Co. of San Diego is the interior designer.

Bilbro Construction Co. of San Diego has finished a 40,000-square-foot office project for WebSideStory at 10180 Telesis Court in the Seaview Corporate Center in Sorrento Mesa. WebSideStory, an Internet tracking and audience analysis company, became the first tenant of the development, which is owned by the Muller Co. of Laguna Hills and Lennar Partners of San Diego. Irving-Hughes Group of San Diego provided construction management and Austin Veum Robbins Parshalle was the architectural firm.

Subcontractors included Interior Specialties of San Diego, Escondido Glass, Neal Electric of Poway and Brian Cox Mechanical, also of Poway.

Rhule Construction Co. of Santee finished 29,300 square feet of tenant improvements at the Pacific Rim Business Center at 9543 Heinrich Hertz Drive in Otay Mesa this month. Jennifer Roberts of Cooper Roberts Bennett of San Diego supplied drawings and space planning services, said Laura Marzahl, a Rhule spokeswoman.
