Executive Spotlight: Tory Nixon
Tory Nixon has been named San Diego Division president at California Bank & Trust. Nixon will oversee 30 offices in San Diego and Riverside counties.
He will be responsible for continuing business development and advancing revenue growth, and increasing the company’s corporate, civic and philanthropic presence throughout the San Diego community.
Erik Lainas has joined Howes Weiler & Associates as a project planner and head of the graphics division. Lainas has more than five years of professional planning experience in the public and private sectors.
Envision Solar has hired Pamela Stevens as executive vice president of its commercial development group. Stevens will oversee the finance and sales team. Jeff Olshesky has been hired as project finance analyst. Olshesky has seven years of experience and will work directly with the vice president of finance. Trevor Knauf has joined the firm as national sales manager. Knauf has three years of experience in the sustainable energy industry.
Borrego Solar Systems has appointed David Boylan to director of marketing. Boylan has more than 15 years of marketing experience.
Helix Environmental Planning has elected Michael Schwerin as chief executive officer. Schwerin, set to start his new job June 1, has 18 years of experience in environmental consulting.
Government and Nonprofit
Floresta has announced the appointment of Doug Satre to director of outreach and development. Satre will assist the nonprofit organization with environmental efforts in a wide area, and will be helping to empower the poor in such locations as Africa, Asia, Central America and the Caribbean.
David Waller has joined the intellectual property group of Gordon & Rees LLP. Waller will focus his practice in the biotechnology arena, including diagnostics, therapeutics and medical devices.
Allen Matkins has elected Mike Holmes to the firm partnership. Holmes focuses his practices on business and real property litigation in state and federal courts.
Media and Marketing
Strategy Communications has hired Mark Abueg as account coordinator. Abueg will assist in the daily operations of composing press releases and finding media opportunities for the firm’s clients.
Covario Inc. has hired Matthias Blume as chief science officer; Steve Lagotta as vice president of finance; and Steve Beal as vice president of development. The company also promoted Suzy Fig to regional vice president.
Cook & Schmid has hired Matthew Schiff to oversee several of the firm’s accounts. Schiff has 11 years of experience on both the client and agency side in the legal, financial services, tourism and nonprofit industries.
Innovative Employee Solutions, which provides payroll and human resources administrative services, has hired Megan VanderGeest as marketing manager. VanderGeest will be responsible for developing and implementing marketing initiatives and overseeing client communications.
Roberto Carrillo has joined CB Richard Ellis as vice president. Carrillo, formerly with NAI, specializes in the leasing and selling of industrial properties in Tijuana. Carrillo joins the Mexico services advisory group for CB Richard Ellis.

Breach Security Inc. has hired Mike Pierce as chief executive officer. Pierce has more than 30 years of enterprise technology experience. Pierce will be responsible for developing corporate business strategies and accelerating company growth.
Ioko, an information technology and marketing firm, has hired Scott Sahadi as chief executive officer of North American operations. Sahadi previously worked as vice president of marketing for VeriSign. Sahadi will operate out of the company’s Solana Beach office.
Donald Shimizu has been named chief operating officer of Carttronics LLC. Shimizu has more than 20 years of experience in high-growth companies. Shimizu specializes in building and managing high-performance teams.
