Executive Spotlight: Cathy Sang

Mingei International Museum in Balboa Park has appointed Cathy Sang as the director of development.

Now full-time director, Sang served as the museum’s part-time development consultant from 2006 to 2007, and was formerly a corporate communications executive with Fortune 100 companies. Since 2003, Sang has immersed herself in nonprofit development, having worked with the Point Loma NTC Foundation in fund raising to establish the NTC Promenade at Liberty Station.

Sang serves as a lead volunteer spokeswoman during disasters for the American Red Cross San Diego/Imperial Counties chapter, and led its communications response during the 2003 San Diego wildfires.


Construction and Design

Cindy Camaho has joined KBM Building Services as the new human resources manager. In her new position, Camaho is responsible for implementing programs that have a positive effect on employee satisfaction, retention and training. Previously, she served as a human resources manager for Artifacts International in San Diego, and before that was with FinancialAid.com, where she handled all human resources functions for the company.

Garrett Wilson has joined C.W. Driver’s San Diego office as a project manager. With more than six years of experience in the construction industry, Wilson most recently worked for Lusardi Construction Co., where he was associated with such projects as San Elijo Elementary School in San Marcos and the First American Corp. campus expansion in Santa Ana.


Government and Nonprofit

The San Diego Foundation and the city of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture have promoted Felicia Shaw to be the director of the Arts & Culture program at the San Diego Foundation. Previously, Shaw served the commission as program manager for 12 years, including strategic planning and organizational development duties. She began her career in the arts in 1985, as an art consultant for community-based nonprofit arts and culture organizations.

The Burnham Institute for Medical Research has appointed Dr. Robert Zaugg to vice president of business development. He will be responsible for the business development activities of the institute, including technology licensing and establishment of strategic alliances in support of regional scientists. Zaugg has contributed to the successful closing of deals aggregating more than $500 million in the past 20 years.

The San Diego Convention Center Corp. has appointed Alexis Gutierrez to serve on the board of directors. He was nominated by Mayor Jerry Sanders and unanimously approved by the San Diego City Council to a three-year term. Gutierrez is a business lawyer and partner for Higgs, Fletcher & Mack LLP. He has considerable nonprofit and for-profit board experience as legal counsel and member.


Health Care and Biotech

Adventrx Pharmaceuticals Inc. has appointed Michele Yelmene to the new position of vice president of regulatory affairs. In her new position, Yelmene will direct the execution of the company’s ongoing global regulatory strategy and be responsible for all regulatory submissions for the company’s product candidates. With more than 25 years of experience in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries, Yelmene previously served as the executive director, clinical and regulatory affairs and corporate secretary for Perlan Therapeutics.


Hospitality

L’Auberge Del Mar Resort and Spa has added two new hires. Chris Ohara, the new director of catering and conference services, brings eight years of catering and managerial experience to her position. She previously served as director of catering at World Trade Club in San Francisco and at organizations through Club Corp. of America. In her new position, Ohara will oversee banquets and special events, while managing conferences on-site.

Dawn Steele, a 14-year hospitality industry veteran, has joined L’Auberge as a San Diego-area sales manager. Previously, Steele served as a corporate group sales manager at the Doubletree Metropolitan Hotel in New York. During her career, she has held a variety of management positions with Four Seasons and Ritz-Carlton hotels. In her new position, Steele will be responsible for generating and supporting group business from the San Diego market.


Law

Littler Mendelson has hired Justin Morello as a new associate in the firm’s San Diego office. Morello comes to Littler from Shea Stokes, where he defended employers, primarily in the hospitality industry, against claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, breach of contract and related matters.

Baker & McKenzie LLP has elected Christine Baur as partner in its San Diego office. A financial services and insolvency lawyer, Baur came to Baker & McKenzie in 2003 to serve in the financial recruiting, creditors’ rights and bankruptcy practice group.

Morrison & Foerster LLP has named Richard Kim and Drew Woodmansee partners. Kim is past president of the San Diego Intellectual Property Law Association and former chairman of the Intellectual Property Law Section of the San Diego County Bar Association. Woodmansee sits on the board of directors of the La Jolla Music Society and maintains an active pro bono practice.


Real Estate

Sean Giffin has joined Champion Development Group as the acquisitions manager. Giffin will oversee acquisitions and entitlements for the company in the San Diego area. Giffin comes to Champion from Grubb & Ellis/BRE Commercial, where he specialized in the sale of land for urban infill and redevelopment projects throughout San Diego County.

Tami Daiber has joined C.W. Clark Inc. as director of asset management. She will be responsible for overseeing the La Jolla company’s real estate management and asset services division. Daiber has performed property management duties at suburban office buildings, retail shopping centers, industrial and medical office buildings and projects for institutional clients.

General Mortgage Corp. has hired Julie Grove Miller to join the company’s Frensdorff Group as a senior loan consultant. Having worked in the mortgage industry since 1989, Miller has worked for Home Federal Savings, Bank of America, CTX Mortgage and Pacific Capital Mortgage.

Eastdil Secured, a unit of Wells Fargo & Co., has appointed Lisa Widmier to a managing director position. Widmier was most recently an executive vice president of the institutional group at CB Richard Ellis Inc., where she specialized in senior housing investment sales and recapitalizations.


Technology and Manufacturing

Western Digital Corp. has elected Thomas Pardun as nonexecutive chairman of the board. Pardun was first elected a director in 1993 and served as a Western Digital chairman in 2000 and 2001. Previously, Pardun was president of MediaOne International, Asia-Pacific, and before that he was president and chief executive officer of U.S. West Multimedia Communications Inc.
