Executive Spotlight: B. Lynne Parshall
Isis Pharmaceuticals Inc. has announced that its board of directors has promoted B. Lynne Parshall as chief operating officer.
Parshall retains her position as chief financial officer and is a director of the company. She joined Isis in 1991 and has served as director since 2000. Before that, she served as executive vice president, chief financial officer and secretary.
Parshall is responsible for overseeing the operations of finance, legal, patents, manufacturing and business development, and is involved with the company’s corporate communications activities.

New England Financial has announced that Brian King has joined the firm as a financial services representative. King offers securities, mutual funds, annuities and life insurance products.
Construction and Design
Andrew Cabrera has been promoted to San Diego division manager for Motivational Systems Inc. During his 14 years with MSI, he has held many positions, including architectural signage specialist, production manager, account executive and, most recently, sales manager.
Keith Butler has been named associate dean of extended learning at Cal State San Marcos. Butler joined CSUSM in 2000 as the M.B.A. operations manager, and then became director of operations for the College of Business Administration.
The Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District governing board has elected Bill Garrett its president for 2008. Other board officers elected for 2008 are Deanna Weeks as board vice president and Greg Barr as clerk of the board.
Altium, a developer of electronics design solutions, has appointed Gerry Gaffney to senior vice president and general manager of the Americas. Gaffney will be based in Altium Americas’ headquarters in Carlsbad.
Information Systems Laboratories has named Bruce Mrowca manager of the company’s Nuclear Systems Analysis Division to oversee the work that ISL does for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and other clients.

San Diego Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride has appointed January Riddle as co-chair-elect, and has announced that Philip Princetta has been elected as co-chair for a second term. Mike Karim will also serve an additional year as treasurer.
The Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego has promoted Charlene Seidle to vice president of philanthropy. Seidle oversees the foundation’s donor services department, its development and grant-making programs and the Jewish Community disaster fund.
Community Catalysts of California, which serves individuals with developmental and physical disabilities, has announced that Al Kovach has joined the agency’s housing alliance board of directors.

SGX Pharmaceuticals Inc. has announced that Joseph Turner has been appointed to the company’s board of directors. Turner brings more than 25 years of management experience in the pharmaceutical industry and will also serve on the company’s audit committee.
Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group has announced that Joanna Whiteley has joined the Family Medicine Department at the group’s Mira Mesa location. Andrew Hampshire has joined the Hematology/Oncology Department at Sharp Rees-Stealy’s San Diego location, on the campus of Sharp Metropolitan Medical Center.
Juan Ordaz Jr. and Jessica Klarer have been named associate attorneys for Casey Gerry Schenk Francavilla Blatt & Penfield LLP. Ordaz will concentrate his practice on plaintiffs’ injuries, while Klarer will focus on products and premises liability.

Cook & Schmid has announced that Debra Robertson will serve as the agency’s director of science strategy. Robertson has more than 15 years of experience in antibody development, enzyme and cytokine development and protein and genomic engineering.
Eric Hernandez has joined ABC Supply Co. Inc. as controller for its West region. Hernandez provides financial and operational support to all ABC Supply associates within the region. James Hawthorne has been promoted to branch manager of the company’s National City office.
The Reuben H. Fleet Science Center has appointed four new members to its staff. Ron Lee has joined the center as senior guest services manager. He brings more than 25 years of management experience in the food service, facilities management and hospitality industries. David Miller is science store manager and is responsible for the overall strategy and direction of the store. Martha Puentes has joined as bilingual community educator and has eight years of education experience. Kimberly Sykes is serving as associate director of development, corporate/foundation support.
Irvine-based recruitment firm Decision Toolbox has announced the hiring of Charlotte Manning, a San Diego resident. Manning joins the company as a recruitment partner with more than 15 years of recruitment experience.
Grubb & Ellis | BRE Commercial has announced that former Burnham Real Estate professionals Bill Ballard and Scot Eisendrath have joined the company as members of its Capital Markets Group. With more than 30 years of combined experience, Ballard and Eisendrath will provide a full range of financial and analytical advisory services to real estate investors, developers, landlords, users and lenders.
The San Diego chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties has announced its 2008 board of directors. Steve Center of Shea Properties will lead the board as president; Chris Pascale of CB Richard Ellis Inc. will serve as president-elect; Jeff Burges of Burges Property Co. will serve as treasurer; and Tom Turner of Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch will act as secretary/general counsel.
Rubio’s Restaurants Inc. has announced the appointment of two new members to its real estate development team. Valerie Kemp has been named real estate manager for Southern California and Jeffrey Mayhall real estate manager for Arizona, Nevada, Colorado and Utah. Kemp worked for Rubio’s in 1999 as a real estate manager, and most recently worked as real estate manager for Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. Mayhall served most recently as director of operations for Camelback Commercial Development Cos. LLC in Phoenix.
Enterprise Rent-A-Car has announced the promotion of Tyler Bartholomew to area rental manager of north coastal San Diego, covering Carlsbad and Oceanside. Bartholomew works from the Carlsbad office, having previously served as branch manager and assistant manager. He has worked for the company for seven years.
