Dan Clay has been appointed chief operating officer of Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza.

Clay, who has more than 35 years of experience in the hospitality industry, will oversee all aspects of the operation, including restaurant procedures and brand management. Additionally, he will head Sammy’s strategic development and new store openings. He will also oversee the restaurant group’s specialty concepts, including Roppongi Restaurant & Sushi Bar and Mosaic Catering.

Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza has nearly 800 employees in 16 locations throughout Southern California and Nevada.

Wells Fargo Private Bank has promoted Marcy Mackless to trust specialist. Mackless provides clients with wealth planning, investment management and consulting, real estate, specialty asset management and philanthropic services.

Carlos Bernal of Grant Thornton’s San Diego office has been promoted to audit senior manager and will serve businesses ranging in size from startups to multinationals.

San Diego National Bank has named Jill Brierton vice president and branch manager of its new Rancho Bernardo location. Among her responsibilities will be business development and staff supervision.

Construction and Design

Architects Mosher Drew Watson Ferguson has named Eric Soldau an associate and James Gordon a senior project designer. Soldau has been with the firm for 10 years and focuses on higher education and civic projects. Gordon has nearly 40 years of experience in the field and was most recently a principal at Schmidt Scanlon Gordon.

Gustavo Rios has been hired as the San Diego area manager for APSI Construction Management. Rios is a registered civil engineer, member of the State Bar of California, and LEED-accredited professional. He has 18 years of industry experience.

Gafcon has named Seda Yaghoubian director of its newly formed planning and entitlement division. She has more than 25 years of experience in municipal, regional and development projects in California, China, Mexico and Armenia. Charles Shoemaker and Patricia Flores Shoemaker also have been named to the team.

Education

The University of San Diego School of Law has appointed Michael Perry to a three-year term as university distinguished visiting professor in law and peace studies. He is the first faculty member to have a joint appointment in the law and peace schools at USD.

Paul Caron has also received a three-year term at USD as the Herzog summer visiting professor in taxation.

Government and Nonprofit

The Parkinson’s Disease Association of San Diego has announced the appointment of three new members to its board of directors, Anish Kadavil, Rick Brydges and Susan Fox.

Kadavil is a senior engineer at Qualcomm who specializes in GPS technology and is responsible for product customer accounts in North America, China and Taiwan. Brydges is a retired naval aviator and received his Ph.D. in education from the University of San Diego. Fox, a licensed private professional fiduciary, has several Parkinson’s patients for clients.

Rolf Haas has been elected president of the Citizen Diplomacy Council of San Diego for the 2008-2009 term. The nonprofit organization works in cooperation with the U.S. Department of State and other federal agencies to bring foreign dignitaries to San Diego to meet with local residents.

Health Care

Reza Sadrian and Vincent P. Marin have joined La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Centre. Sadrian is a staff surgeon at various area hospitals, including Scripps Memorial Hospital. Marin earned his medical degree from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Both surgeons are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Hospitality

Roppongi Restaurant & Sushi Bar has named Patrick Allan Bryant general manager and Anthony Pascale executive sushi chef.

Hard Rock Hotel San Diego has named Matt Greene, former senior vice president of operations at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Las Vegas, its general manager. Greene will oversee the day-to-day operations.

Law

Loren G. Freestone has been rehired at Higgs, Fletcher & Mack as an associate. He’ll focus on business litigation and employment practices as a trial attorney. Freestone graduated from UCLA and the University of San Diego School of Law.

Media and Marketing

ParkerWhite has hired Tyler McBride as an account executive. McBride will be responsible for managing several key accounts.

Real Estate

Laurie Manley has joined Willis Allen Real Estate’s Santaluz branch. Manley has 16 years of experience in the local real estate market.

Technology

SkillStorm has promoted Ethan Gillespie to associate vice president of West Coast operations. Gillespie will be in charge of managing all commercial sales and recruiting efforts for contract and direct-hire divisions.
