Scripps Health has appointed Mary Ellen Doyle to vice president and chief nurse executive for Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla. Doyle will be responsible for supporting and retaining the nursing staff with a goal of improving patient care.

Her experience includes research, mentoring and education. She began her career as a staff nurse at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in high-risk obstetrics. Most recently, Doyle was system chief nursing officer at St. Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City in Missouri. She received her nursing degree from Arizona State University and her graduate degree with an emphasis in health care from Avila University.

Banking and Finance

Nathan Weber has rejoined RGL Forensics as manager. He was previously employed with the firm from 1995 to 2000. His experience includes accounting, litigation and insurance support, as well as audit and tax services.

TAG has hired Peter O’Sullivan as executive vice president of strategy and operations as part of its acquisition of Simple Business, which O’Sullivan founded in 2002. His focus will be in outsourced accounting, accounting software and high-net-worth family accounting. He received his undergraduate degree in economics from UCLA and his master’s degree from Santa Clara University.

Education

Thomas Jefferson School of Law has promoted Beth Kransberger, William Byrnes and Arnold Rosenberg. Kransberger will serve as associate dean for student affairs with the responsibility of administering admissions, student services, career services and financial aid. Byrnes will serve as associate dean for the school’s Distance Education Programs, overseeing online and continuing education programs. Rosenberg will serve as assistant dean, also for the Distance Education Programs.

National University has named Kathleen Winston president of the National Polytechnic College of Science. Winston possesses more than 30 years of experience in higher education and nursing. Most recently, she served as dean of Health Sciences and Human Services at Emeritus Institute at Saddleback College. She is working on her doctoral degree in nursing education and administration. Additionally, she holds a certificate in audiology.

Energy

Independent Energy Solutions has named George Gisel vice president of business development. His responsibilities will include planning, directing and executing the firm’s sales, marketing and business development strategies. Gisel has more than 20 years’ experience in executive-level management.

Health care and Biotech

NovaRx has named Norrie Russell its president and chief operating officer. He has more than 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Russell previously served in executive-level positions such as chief scientific officer for Invitrogen as well as president and CEO of Kalos Therapeutics.

Hospitality

Peartrees Catering has hired Deandra Holcomb as director of sales. She has 14 years of experience in the hospitality industry. Holcomb previously owned and operated a catering company in New Orleans.

Law

Robyn Thaw has joined Barney & Barney as senior client executive in its Commercial Division. Thaw has 30 years’ experience in insurance solutions for real estate and common interest developments, homeowners associations, and planned unit developments.

The San Diego County Bar Association has welcomed Jerrilyn Malana of Littler Mendelson as president. Additionally, Patrick Hosey will serve as president-elect in 2009 and as president in 2010. New SDCBA board of directors are Tina Fryar, Duane Horning, James Lund, Marcella McLaughlin and Gita Varughese. Each new board member will serve a three-year term.

Real Estate

Ron Magnaghi has joined Jones Lang LaSalle as executive vice president. In his 16 years of experience, Magnaghi has worked as a tenant representative and managed several corporate real estate projects. He previously served as senior director at Cushman & Wakefield and has worked for Irving Hughes.

Technology and Manufacturing

Aculon has appointed Edward Hughes to CEO. Hughes has 15 years’ experience in managing consumer and technology businesses. He also serves on the board of directors for the Harvard Business School Club and San Diego Girl Scouts organization. He is a graduate of Cambridge University in England and Harvard Business School.
