Executive Spotlight: Mark Filanc

J.R. Filanc Construction Co. Inc. has appointed Mark Filanc to the position of president and chief operating officer of the design-builder and value engineer.

In his new role, Filanc is providing overall leadership of the firm and managing daily responsibilities of the company’s business functions. With more than 30 years of experience in water and wastewater design and construction, Filanc previously served as executive vice president and director of construction operations.

He joined the company in 1981, beginning as an estimator and project manager before his promotion to vice president. Before joining J.R. Filanc, he served two years as a project engineer for Lowry & Associates in Irvine.


Banking and Finance

General Mortgage has announced that Judy Dunham will be joining the banking division and providing marketing support.

New England Financial has announced that Marlene Goldstein has joined the firm as financial services representative. She will offer securities, mutual funds, annuities and life insurance products, as well as general information and advice regarding those products.


Construction and Design

Amy Bouma-Kellerman has joined the firm of Leslie Cohen Design as a designer. For the past nine years, Bouma-Kellerman has specialized in custom kitchen and bath design.

Graham Downes Architecture has appointed Caryn Bailey to the position of senior project manager. Bailey brings more than 18 years of architectural experience to her new role, including scheduling and project management.

CCBG Architects Inc. has appointed William Behun to the position of senior project architect for its San Diego office.


Health Care and Biotech

Vitalea Science has announced the addition of Edmund Capparelli to its scientific advisory board. Capparelli is an HIV and pediatric pharmacologist at UC San Diego, where he is director of the pediatric pharmacology research unit. He will assist Vitalea in developing tools for pediatric clinical pharmacology.

Sharp Grossmont Hospital named Mark Monson as vice president of clinical operations. Monson has more than 20 years of senior health care management experience.


Insurance

Gaslamp Insurance Services has hired Julie Burke as office manager, where she will be responsible for organizing the company’s administrative process and facilitating production.


Law

The International Technology Law Association, or ITechLaw, has appointed John Carson vice president for 2007-2008. Carson is a partner with Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear. Carson specializes in intellectual property law within the computer software, image processing, Internet, personal computer and semiconductor industries.

The San Diego Legal Secretaries Association has installed its 2007-2008 board of directors. Jan Sones of Mazzarella Caldarelli LLP was installed as president. Crystalin Morris of Wilson Petty Kosmo & Turner LLP was installed as vice president, and Michelle Tice of Baker & McKenzie LLP was named secretary. Ann Postill of Stutz Ariano Shinoff & Holtz was made treasurer.


Media and Marketing

Allison & Partners has appointed Sara Wacker to the public relations firm’s San Diego office as an account manager.

The Starmack Group has added two new members to its staff. Summer Jackson joins as a graphic designer, where she will be responsible for executing the graphic elements of advertising and design, as well as carrying out production and client interaction responsibilities. Linda Ellis-Flint comes on board as an assistant account manager, where she will work with clients and agency leadership to manage the daily operations of production and traffic needs.


Miscellaneous

The executive search firm McDermott & Bull has named Mike Stinson to the position of principal consultant. Stinson will be responsible for helping to grow the firm’s practice in Southern California.

Brecht BMW in Escondido has named Jeremy Ferguson inventory manager. In his new role, he will manage the BMW retailer’s new-car inventory, including ordering new cars and coordinating dealer trades.


Real Estate

Prudential California Realty has announced the addition of attorney Mark Eckel to its staff. Eckel brings more than seven years of negotiation experience to Prudential.

Prudential also has appointed two new associates to its marina office downtown. Lisa Erb has been a real estate professional for five years. Brian Borkum, who began his real estate career overseas, has represented buyers and sellers in San Diego County for 20 years.

GVA IPC Commercial Real Estate has announced the addition of Anthony Norris to its Carlsbad office. Norris specializes in the sales and leasing of office and industrial properties throughout San Diego County.

Sperry Van Ness has expanded into a full-service commercial real estate firm with the addition of Charlie Boukather. He will be responsible for handling owner and tenant representation and lease negotiations for retail and office property in North San Diego County and expanding into the downtown area.

Stewart Title of California has named Ron Howarth to the position of senior vice president, south metro district commercial/subdivision manager. In addition to leading the Orange County commercial, builder and special projects teams, Howarth now manages commercial and builder sales and service activities for the company’s Imperial, Inland Empire and San Diego divisions.


Technology and Manufacturing

Lender Support Systems Inc. has announced the addition of Teesh Yalamanchili as the company’s product marketing manager. With more than 10 years of marketing experience, Yalamanchili will be responsible for conducting technical market research and product analysis as well as communicating product updates to internal and external teams at LSSI.

Eset has appointed Darin Andersen to the position of chief operating officer. Andersen, who has served as a special advisor at Eset since 2005, brings more than 15 years of experience to his new role. He will work closely on strategic business development, manage the company’s daily operations and ensure alignment among executive management on business priorities.
