Executive Spotlight , Bob Pollack

Legend Films has appointed entertainment industry veteran Bob Pollack to the position of president.

Pollack will bring his Hollywood studio and retail experience to Legend to spearhead growth initiatives including retail distribution, studio relations and acquisitions. He will oversee all sales and marketing activities around the Legend Films’ library of classic films.

Before joining Legend, Pollack was a founder and president of Compass Productions. When the company was sold to Somerset Entertainment in 2005, Pollack served as a consultant.

Previously, he was senior vice president at Warner Bros. Home Video, where he was responsible for international retail sales and worked on the initial launch of DVD.


Banking and Finance

Neighborhood National Bank has announced the promotion of Patty Staples. Having worked at the bank since 2002, Staples has assumed the role of executive vice president and chief credit officer.


Construction and Design

Packard Hospitality Group has hired Steve Carr as chief financial officer and vice president of construction. With 30 years of construction experience, Carr will oversee land permit processing and entitlements, as well as construction management for several projects.

Johnson & Jennings General Contracting has hired Kevin Alexen as a project manager. In his new position, Alexen is responsible for pre-construction and construction services, including estimating, scheduling and design development.

KBM Building Services has named Gregory Glaus to the position of sales manager.

Barnhart Inc. has promoted Anton Greenville to the position of senior vice president. Greenville has worked for Barnhart for the past 18 years.


Engineering

SCS Engineers said that Christopher Spengler was promoted to vice president of the San Diego offices of the engineering firm. Spengler joined SCS in 1993 as the firm’s first full-time employee, with the title of staff level engineer. In his new position, he will lead the brownfields practice for the San Diego office.

Fuscoe Engineering Inc. has announced the addition of Joseph Kuhn to its watershed management team. His title is water quality scientist.


Government and Nonprofit

San Diego Superior Court judges have selected North County Family Law Attorney Patti Ratekin and veteran San Diego Deputy City Attorney Keri Katz as court commissioners. Ratekin joins the court after a 13-year career as a family law attorney and certified family law specialist. Katz, currently serving as the assistant director of the San Diego City Water Department, worked in the San Diego city attorney’s office for 20 years.

American Dream Real Estate Group Inc. President David McDonald has been elected president of the San Diego chapter of the California Association of Mortgage Brokers. His duties include increasing the San Diego chapter membership as well as developing and implementing community outreach programs.

Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps partner Charles Bird has been named president of the California Academy of Appellate Lawyers. Bird will serve a one-year term. Luce Forward partner Brian Fish has been named to the board of directors of the Urban Land Institute San Diego/Tijuana chapter.


Health Care and Biotech

Halozyme Therapeutics Inc. has announced that Randal Kirk and Kathryn Falberg have been named to its board of directors. Kirk was founder, chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer of New River Pharmaceuticals Inc. Falberg is the former chief financial officer of Amgen.


Hospitality

Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa has named Dave Gerdes as regional director of sales and marketing. He previously served as area director of sales and marketing for Omni Hotels Corp. in Washington, D.C.


Law

The San Diego office of Jones Day has announced that George Howard Jr. has joined the law firm as a partner in its labor and employment practice. Howard comes to Jones Day from Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, where he was a partner for eight years.

The commercial litigation group at Gordon & Rees LLP has announced the addition of Richard Spirra. His specialty is First Amendment and media law litigation.

In addition to Spirra, three other attorneys have joined Gordon & Rees’s San Diego office. Tara Gillman and Daniel Obuhanych join the employment group, and Paul Henreid joins the environmental and toxic tort group.

Duane Morris LLP has announced the arrival of Ann Bradley as a partner in the firm’s employment and immigration practice group. Formerly of DLA Piper, Bradley focuses her practice on federal and California employment law and all related matters.


Media and Marketing

Logo Expressions Inc. has announced the addition of Perri Mills as an account executive. Mills has been in the promotional products business for 14 years.

Bolt Public Relations has expanded its team with the addition of Jennafer Moreno as its new account coordinator. Before joining Bolt, she worked in the food and beverage industry for Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and Karl Strauss Brewing Co.

1st Strike Creative has hired Theresa Amos Smullen as an executive producer. Previously, Smullen served as executive producer for Four Square Productions.


Miscellaneous

Velocity Audio Visual Services has hired Gabe Kieffer as warehouse operations manager. John Bailey, former operations manager, has been promoted to the position of senior lead technician. Kieffer was previously an event technology specialist for Presentation Services and on the audio visual staff as the assistant to the director of media services at the Mission Valley Christian Fellowship.


Real Estate

Prudential California Realty has appointed Karel Wilcox to its team of professionals in the Escondido office. She brings more than 16 years of experience in the banking industry to Prudential.

Prudential has also announced the appointment of Summer Lawrence to its Coronado offices. Coming to Prudential from the hospitality business, Lawrence brings several years of customer service and management experience to her new position.
