Executive Spotlight: Bob Morris
Bob Morris has been named senior director of operations for Scripps Health Foundation. He will oversee the foundation’s corporate business operations that support fund-raising efforts for Scripps Health and its local hospitals and clinics. “Bob brings an incredible amount of fund-raising experience and business acumen to Scripps Foundation,” said John Engle, senior vice president and chief development officer for Scripps Health. Most recently, Morris was the vice president of development for the Alzheimer’s Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties. He has also been on the board of directors for the Downtown San Diego Partnership, city of San Diego’s Homeless Task Force and many more.

Jane Simeral has joined Lavine, Lofgren, Morris & Engelberg, LLP’s tax department.
Meryl Maneker, partner with Wilson Petty Kosmo & Turner, has been elected to the American Law Institute. Maneker’s practice focuses on class action as well as the areas of product liability, employment and general business litigation.
Construction and Design
William Rindone has been promoted to an associate at Architects Delawie Wilkes Rodrigues Barker. Rindone has been with the company since 1998 and most recently served as project architect. Standard Pacific Homes’ San Diego division has hired Kevin Kruer as assistant manager of land acquisitions. He is charged with locating and acquiring new land for the company’s residential, new home communities. Kruer has 19 years of project management experience and most recently was a project manager for T2 Builders. Ellen Schrock has joined the JCJ Blackman Architecture design team. She will provide support to the hospitality and education practice groups. Ryan Rogers and Brendan Inglis have been named assistant project engineers at Roel Construction.

San Diego fire Chief Jeff Bowman has been selected as the chairman of the Scripps Health board of trustees. Bowman, who joined the board in 2004, has more than 12 years’ experience on health system governance boards. Joining Bowman on the board are Fred Howe and Douglas Bingham.
High-Tech and Manufacturing
Patriot Scientific Corp. has selected Jim Turley to the board of directors. Turley, editor of Silicon Insider, is the author of seven books and has been editor for Microprocessor Report, where he was a three-time winner of the Computer Press award. John Romaker has joined AgriMarkets as executive vice president and general counsel. Most recently, Romaker was with McDonnell & Romaker, where he specialized in business litigation.
Government and Nonprofit
Escondido police Capt. Jim Maher will succeed police Chief Duane White on July 31. Maher has served 25 years with the department. The Urban Land Institute San Diego/Tijuana Council has hired Tracy Morgan Hollingworth as district council coordinator. She replaces Jodi Varner and will serve as liaison between the district council and the local community. Hollingworth has been managing various associations for the past 10 years, including the local chapters of American Society of Landscape Architects and Lambda Alpha International. Lynne Fruehling, the president of Red Lizard Creative, has been appointed to the board of directors of Home Start, Inc.
Media and Marketing
SZPR Inc. has hired Jennifer Borba as an account executive. Borba’s background includes grass-roots marketing, event planning and fund-raising campaigns. Most recently, she was with Thielen Partners.
Succeeding Patricia Winter as executive director for the San Diego Science Alliance is Mickie Beyer. She will be responsible for the continued development and implementation of SDSA’s program and services. Shannon Standish has joined Schubach Aviation as chief pilot. She will be responsible for managing the pilot staff, organizing and conducting pilot training and serve as a liaison between pilots and management. Standish has 16 years of aviation industry experience and most recently served as an instructor and check pilot for Hawker jets at CAE Simuflite. The International Franchise Association has recognized Manny Bernal of Coverall Cleaning Concepts and David Grainger of Jani-King International with the IFA Franchisee of the Year Award.
Susan Guerra has been promoted to chief operating officer for Chesnut Properties. She will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management operations. Guerra has been with the company since 2004 and served as director of management. Jill Affsa has been hired to Brookfield Homes’ sales staff. Before Affsa’s real estate career, she was a chef in Massachusetts. Jeffrey Chasan, executive vice president of GVA IPC, has received the Society of Industrial Realtors designation. With 18 years of commercial real estate experience, Chasan has been recognized as the firm’s top producer each year since he joined the firm in 1998. Nathan Moore, the president of Best Quality Lighting, has become a member of the California Landscape Contractors Association’s San Diego chapter. Pete Navarro, owner of Blue Skies Landscape Maintenance, has been named the 2006 chairman of the Immigration Task Force for the California Landscape Contractors Association. Anne and Brad Kipfer have joined Re/Max Hometown Realtors’ Santee office as real estate sales agents.

Fortune magazine has named AT & T; Inc. America’s Most Admired Telecommunications Company. Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear has been ranked as the top intellectual property law firm based in the western United States in an international survey conducted by Euromoney’s Managing Intellectual Property magazine. Barratt American has been named one of the nation’s leading homebuilders according to a customer satisfaction survey conducted by Eliant.
The Corky McMillin Cos. donated $5,000 to Thurgood Marshall Elementary School for its literacy program.
