Executive Spotlight: David Geerdes
David Geerdes has joined Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP’s business and technology team. He has more than 30 years’ experience advising management on labor, employment and executive agreements. Most recently, Geerdes was with Heller Ehrman, where he was managing shareholder of the San Diego office for more than four years. Before that, he was the head of Gray Cary’s labor counseling practice. Geerdes is a recognized authority in the area of labor and employment law. “His addition gives expanded capabilities and added depth to our thriving labor and employment group and he will also be (an) invaluable resource to our corporate, tax and litigation teams,” said David Wolds, partner and leader of the firm’s labor, employment and ERISA group.

Josh Higgins has joined Miriello Grafico Inc. as a designer. Higgins has held design positions with Earth Products, Conover and Six One Nine Graphic Design. The American Society of Interior Designers announced that Robert Wright has been elected president and will serve a one-year term.

Fifth District county Supervisor and Vice Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Bill Horn has been appointed as the county representative on the California State Association of Counties for a one-year term. Misti Cain has been named the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce’s director of communications. A Reason to Survive has named Lisa Saneda program director. Saneda was previously the vice president of the Arts Center Foundation.

IYIA Technologies, Inc. has announced that Geoffrey Boyes has joined its board of directors. Boyes has more than 30 years’ experience with Johnson & Johnson and most recently founded Bilton International LLC.

Amir Golshan has joined GERS Retail Systems as vice president and general manager. Golshan has more than 18 years of experience in product development and professional services in retail, supply chain and financial industries. Most recently, he served as director of product development at Evant/Manhattan Associates. Rick Fink, co-founding partner with Miramar Venture Partners, has been appointed to Coradiant, Inc.’s board of directors. Sentek Consulting, Inc. has named Hamlin Tallent as vice president of C41 Systems. Most recently, Tallent served as the director of operations for the U.S. European Command.
Suzanne Biggs has joined Duane Morris LLP as partner in its intellectual property practice group. She has more than 20 years of practicing as both outside and in-house patent counsel and was formerly with Pillsbury Winthrop Show Pittman LLP. Juan Castaneda, Joy Cheng-I Chang, Joshua Heinlein, Jennifer Chong, Kurt Oreshack, Gina Song and Hillery Stones have joined Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps LLP as associates. Foley & Lardner has hired Dalen Copeland as an associate in its business law department and Alyssa Osugi as an associate in its environmental regulation department. Copeland comes from Paul, Hastings, Janofsky and Walker LLP, where she worked as a corporate associate. Osugi comes from Los Angeles Superior Court, where she was a law clerk. Fish & Richardson P.C. has hired attorneys Desa Burton, Susan Foster, Jamie Hammer and Ha Tran as associates. Jeremy Hayden has been added as of counsel. Jennifer Best has been hired as scientific adviser and Hwa Lee as technical specialist.
The San Diego Natural History Museum has added Osborne “Toby” Bethea as planned giving officer and Eowyn Bates as director of annual fund and membership programs to its Institutional Advancement. Bethea was most recently vice president, director of development and interim executive vice president for Mercy Hospital Foundation. Bates most recently served as development officer for Salk Institute for Biological Studies. ALS Group, an executive strategy company, has opened an office in San Diego. Tracy Thompson has joined Environmental Business Solutions as a field technician. His responsibilities will include but not limit to the sampling and monitoring of soil vapor, ground water and storm water discharge and the setup and maintenance of ground water remediation systems. Most recently, Thompson owned and operated for eight years Tracy Thompson Landscape Service. Black Mountain Ranch LLC has appointed Diane Radu as hostess and welcome center manager at Del Sur. She will oversee operations and staffing. ACE DuraFlo has announced that Steven Wann has been promoted to head the northern San Diego County operations. Enterprise Rent-A-Car has promoted Mark Verbois as regional vice president in the San Diego and Oceanside regions. He will oversee over 250 employees in the region, develop new business opportunities, consult and train employees, recruit and assist field personnel and oversee local corporate business rentals.
Christopher Reutz has joined Colliers International as the director of research for the San Diego region. He will head the research services group, which reports, tracks, analyzes and forecasts real estate market trends. Reutz comes from Burnham Real Estate Services, where he served as senior research analyst. Frank Nordeman has joined Re/Max Associates’ Oceanside office as a real estate sales agent. Rose Firsten has joined Re/Max at the beach as a real estate sales agent. Seth O’Byrne has joined Re/Max Associates’ La Jolla office as a real estate sales agent. Merna Mitchell has joined Re/Max Distinctive Properties as a real estate sales agent. Katsie Fanelli has joined Re/Max Associates’ Clairemont office as a real estate agent. Stewart Title of California has hired Brian Hurley as its president effective Jan. 1, 2006. Hurley succeeds Allan Wasserman.

Pool & Spa News has ranked California Pools as the No. 1 pool builder in California, Arizona and Nevada and the No. 3 builder in the United States. Jane Fantel, a real estate sales agent at Re/Max Distinctive Properties, was recognized with an honorary doctorate award from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion for her 25 years of service to Jewish people. The Huntington’s Disease Society of America, San Diego chapter, was named Chapter of the Year by the national office of HDSA for excellence in family services, educational programs, advocacy, fund raising, communications and board development.
Wake Forest University trustee and San Diego hotelier Doug and Elizabeth Manchester donated $5 million to Wake Forest University.
Hitachi Corp. donated $4,000 to the fourth grade classes of Valle Lindo Elementary School to promote physical fitness through a swimming instruction program.
Volvo donated $30,000 to the Keys to Success program launched by the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation to give needy children the ability to take driver’s education school to receive driver’s licenses.
R.B. Sunrise Rotary has donated $10,000 to the Nice Guys Victory Fund, a fund to provide aid and support to wounded Marines and sailors and their families.
Local members of the North San Diego County Association of Realtors in Carlsbad donated more than $1,200 to the Carlsbad Library Foundation to purchase new computers for the city of Carlsbad Learning Center.
The Burnham Way raised $90,000 at its annual fund-raising event benefiting various local charities.
