Executive Spotlight: Timothy “Jay” Payne

Caf & #233; Japengo at the Aventine in La Jolla has appointed Timothy “Jay” Payne to executive chef. In his new role, Payne will oversee all hot food preparation.

Payne brings more than 10 years of food and beverage expertise to his new post.

A San Diego native, he began his career as a student apprentice with the San Diego Yacht Club, then worked in the kitchen at La Case Del Zorro in Borrego Springs. Following these roles, he took the position of executive chef at the San Diego Yacht Club.

Payne has also served as the executive sous chef at the Fairbanks Ranch Country Club.

Caf & #233; Japengo offers a sushi bar, as well as Asian-, French-, and Mediterranean-influenced cuisine.


Banking and Finance

Centara Capital Management Group Inc. has appointed Mark Kenny to the position of senior director of advanced planning. Kenny has more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, including tax and estate planning, retirement planning, business succession planning, and providing investment advisory services.

Annalena Thompson has joined Wells Fargo Bank as vice president in construction lending in the community banking real estate group.


Construction and Design

Roel Construction has promoted Brandon Armitstead from help desk technician to IS systems administrator. He joined Roel in 2005 and is currently pursuing his degree in information technology.

Graham Downes Architecture has hired Jon Starr as senior project manager. Starr brings more than 24 years of design experience working on high-rise residential, corporate office, academic and civic facilities.

Shea Homes has announced the appointment of Sonia Chin to the company’s executive team. Chin was named vice president of finance for the San Diego division of Shea. In her new position, she will oversee forecasting, financial accounting, reporting, budgeting, payroll, and other fiduciary duties.

Bruce Stone, a 30-year veteran of the construction and real estate industry, has been named senior vice president at TSA Contracting Inc. Bruce will be overseeing operations for TSA Contracting.

Douglas Barnhart Inc. has promoted Katie Wade to director of human resources. She will oversee the human resources department, supporting Barnhart’s 450 employees statewide.


Government and Nonprofit

City of Hope, a research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases, has appointed Gail Naughton to its national board of directors. Naughton is co-founder and former vice chairwoman of Advance Tissue Sciences, and serves as dean of the College of Business Administration at San Diego State University.


Health Care and Biotech

MaryAnn Stewart has joined the La Jolla Institute for Allergy & Immunology as vice president for external relations/chief development officer. She will be in charge of developing and leading the institute’s first formal fundraising program.

Pharmatek Laboratories Inc. has appointed Yvonne Verburgt to the position of senior director, business development. Verburgt has worked in business development and sales for contract research organizations and biotechnology companies for more than 25 years.


Hospitality

The Meeting Manager has announced four new hires in its San Diego office. Benita Rangel will serve as operations manager, Alex Doheny as staffing/operations coordinator, Tiffany Ryan as account manager, and Jen Hurst will serve as office coordinator. Each new employee joins TMM with experience in the tourism and hospitality industries.


Law

Bret Bartolotta has joined Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps LLP, in the firm’s downtown San Diego office. Bartolotta will focus on tenant-in-common syndications as part of Luce Forward’s business practice group.


Media and Marketing

Mark Stadwiser has joined Direct Promotions as vice president of sales and business development. He will be responsible for growing Direct Promotions’ business and developing its marketing strategy in San Diego.

Bailey Gardiner has hired Brian Marabello as the agency’s in-house copywriter. Marabello will support all accounts in the company’s goal to expand the advertising department.

Specialized Marketing Services Inc. has appointed Doug Sprague to the position of vice president of business development. He will lead the sales team and assume responsibility for augmenting the company’s growth plans.


Miscellaneous

HireRight, which provides employment background and drug screening services, has appointed Rob Pickell to the position of vice president of product management.


Real Estate

Sudberry Properties has promoted Hang Do to controller. Do has been with the company since 2004 and will now be responsible for supervising the accounting staff, drafting multi-entity financial statements, tracking construction costs, and other accounting duties.

Joe Mendoza has joined Prudential California Realty’s La Jolla office. A licensed broker, Mendoza has served the real estate industry for nearly a decade, most recently as an investor and loan consultant.

Lee & Associates has added Derek Hulse and Joel Meacham as associates. Both brokers have relocated from Lee’s Carlsbad location and will now work out of the San Diego-UTC office. Hulse will be working in the National Accounts Group, providing tenant representation services to office and industrial clients. Meacham will be working in a team of ten, focusing on the office and industrial markets in central San Diego.


Technology and Manufacturing

Steve Bond has joined Next Stage Software Solutions as director. Bond will be responsible for overseeing customer service and the sales and marketing efforts for Next Stage as well as guiding the company’s overall growth strategies for San Diego County.
