Executive Spotlight: Todd Miller

Sharp HealthCare has named Todd Miller its senior vice president of marketing and communications. In his new role, Miller is responsible for the strategic oversight of all marketing, advertising, and internal and external communications.

Miller, who joined Sharp as vice president of marketing and advertising in 2003, has more than 20 years of marketing experience.

Before joining Sharp, he held leadership positions at advertising agencies on the East and West coasts, including Matthews/Evans/Albertazzi in San Diego and Deutsch Inc. in New York.

Additionally, Miller oversees the Sharp Experience, an expansive organizational improvement initiative designed to transform the health care experience.

Construction and Design

NTDStichler announces three new team members at the firm’s headquarters. Jesse Saavedra has been in the industry for more than 10 years and has worked on health care, education and residential projects locally and internationally.

He will take over as job captain. Edward De Blieck is an experienced project designer, and in six years has contributed to multiple major projects nationwide.

De Blieck will serve as a job captain as well. Lowell Manalo, the firm’s new plumbing designer, joins the firm from a leading San Diego engineering company and is a former engineer for San Diego’s Marine Services.

KMA Architecture & Engineering has announced the addition of Andrew Carlos as project manager and Rich Guerena as project architect to its staff.

Carlos brings 16 years of experience in commercial, retail and historic residential preservation to his position and most recently served as senior project manager with Architects Orange.

Guerena has expertise in contemporary residential design, which has been used in many mixed-use projects throughout San Diego County.

Before coming to KMA, he worked with Martinez and Cutri Architects.

Scott Mortensen has joined C.W. Driver as a project manager. With more than 19 years of experience in the construction industry, he recently completed several projects within San Diego County.

His current project is the Miramar College Hourglass Field House, which began construction in January.

C.W. Driver has also appointed Ryan Meagher as a project manager. Meagher joins the company with more than nine years of experience in construction, and his current assignment is the San Marcos Unified School District elementary school No. 2 project, set to break ground in May.

Pardee Homes has promoted Chris Hallman to senior vice president and legal counsel. Formerly the homebuilding company’s senior legal counsel, Hallman joined Pardee Homes in 2005.

Previously, he was a partner at Koeller, Nebeker, Carlson and Haluck in San Diego, where he represented Pardee Homes in legal matters.

Finance and Banking

Annalena Thompson has joined Wells Fargo Bank as vice president in construction lending in the California Business Banking Group.

Thompson has 10 years of industry experience and specializes in construction lending for small to midsize builders and developers in the Southern California region.

Bret Dudl, founder and chief executive officer for SFG Benefits Financial, has been appointed vice president of Intercare Insurance Solutions’ retirement planning group. Intercare recently announced the acquisition of SFG Benefits Financial.

Dudl has specialized in providing employer 401(k) and deferred compensation planning services through SFG Benefits Financial for the past several years.

Rancho Financial Mortgage Center, based in Rancho Bernardo, has hired wholesale loan consultant Rebecca Jones to the Temecula office loan team. Jones will oversee the mortgage process and handle client needs.

Government and Nonprofit

Zachary Wilhoit has been elected to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ board of directors. Wilhoit is the chief executive officer of Ethnic Technologies, and he is a recognized expert in the field of multicultural initiatives and global diversity. He has volunteered in hospital emergency rooms for more than 30 years.

Health care and Biotech

Biosite Inc. has promoted Thomas Blassey to vice president of U.S. sales. Blassey, who has more than 20 years of industry experience, will lead the company’s sales organization, national accounts and clinical training.

Invitrogen Corp. has appointed Kelli Richard to vice president of finance and chief accounting officer. Richard joined Invitrogen in 2005 with more than 14 years of accounting and financial reporting experience, previously serving as vice president of accounting and reporting at Gateway Inc.


Amar Thakur has been named co-chairman of Sheppard Mullin’s intellectual property practice. He is based in Del Mar Heights and his practice is devoted to the representation of life sciences and technology clients. Thakur’s experience in technology, transactional and licensing matters includes acquisition and protection of intellectual property, technology transfer agreements, and patent and software licensing transactions.

Media and Marketing

Greg Todd has been named managing editor for Fox6 News, XETV, Bay City Television. Todd has 30 years of experience as an award-winning broadcast journalist for stations across the country, where he has been an anchor, reporter and meteorologist. Before coming to San Diego, his employers included KOMO-TV Seattle and WRTV Indianapolis.

Real Estate

Brookfield Homes has named Larry Cortes its chief financial officer of the homebuilding company’s San Diego/Riverside counties division. Cortes brings more than 20 years of business accounting and real estate experience, most recently working for DR Horton/Continental Homes as vice president and chief financial officer since 1996.

Lupe Soto has joined McMillin Realty as head of the Bonita office. She will focus on developing, training and coaching agents, along with growing the office to more than 65 agents. Soto was most recently general sales manager of a Century 21 branch in Orange County and previously branch manager for Prudential California Realty for 14 years in Los Angeles.
