Executive Spotlight: Ron Withall

Ron Withall has been promoted to president and chief executive officer at MC Consultants Inc., a Carlsbad construction consulting company.

Previously, Withall served as vice president of operations. In his new role, he will oversee corporate operations and professional service divisions, including mc2, mc3 and CE Prime Inc.

Withall is a licensed general contractor in seven states with 25 years of experience as a builder. His design-build construction background includes work on residential and mixed-use projects, high-rise office, industrial and technology manufacturing, hospitality and health sciences buildings.


Construction and Design

Roel Construction has hired Zoe Hickey as director of marketing. Hickey has 17 years of marketing experience, and she previously worked for Telelogic as its director of field marketing. Roel has hired three other people. Paul Castillo has joined the company as facilities manager. He has been in the construction industry for 24 years. Walter Chan joins as a project engineer, and worked as a technical services technician for Quality Built before joining Roel. Diane Muenchau joins Roel’s consulting group as peer review administrative assistant. Muenchau has 23 years of administrative experience.

Brookfield Homes has announced the appointment of Lora Heramb as vice president of sales and marketing for the homebuilder’s San Diego/Riverside division.

Robert Gutierrez has been named project superintendent at Johnson & Jennings General Contracting. In his new position, Gutierrez is responsible for on-site project operations, including daily production, subcontractor coordination, on-site safety, cost control and field quality control. Gutierrez has been in the industry for 28 years.

MC Consultants Inc. has hired Kai Loedel as vice president of finance and chief financial officer. Before joining MC, Loedel worked in the biotech and high-tech industries as director of finance and controller for several local publicly traded companies. MC Consultants has also appointed a new vice president of sales and marketing. Daniel Ducommun has joined the executive team to oversee the marketing and sales management for mc2, mc3 and CE Prime Inc. professional services divisions.

Rob Slaughter has joined J.R. Filanc Construction Co. Inc. as its information technology manager. Slaughter will manage all network and communication systems for Filanc, as well as supervise the information technology staff. He brings to the company 25 years of experience in business and computer networking. Previously, Slaughter served as chief information officer and chief executive officer for Data Net Solutions Group, a company he founded.


Government and Nonprofit

The South County Economic Development Council board of directors has elected Doug Paul president of the 2007 board. Paul is president of the Paul Co. In addition, members elected Dan Biggs, chief executive officer of Designed Internet Solutions, as first vice president; Bill Tunstall and Norma Hernandez as second vice presidents; Rosa Gonzalez Lopez of Union Bank of California as treasurer; and Ed Lopez, with San Diego Gas & Electric Co., as secretary.

Stephen O’Kane has been named chief executive officer for the Council of Community Clinics. O’Kane brings 30 years of experience in health care administration and leadership to the post. Most recently, O’Kane served as the vice president of administrative services for Alvarado Hospital Medical Center.


Health Care and Biotech

Trius Therapeutics Inc. announced that Philippe Prokocimer has joined the company as chief medical officer. Prokocimer, formerly a vice president for Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceuticals, has been developing anti-infective drugs for the past 20 years.

Ryan Exline has been named associate administrator for GlenView Assisted Living and GlenBrook Skilled Nursing. Exline will be responsible for assisting the executive director of La Costa Glen with the overall administration of the community. His primary emphasis will be on supervising the health center’s various service departments.

Phenomix Corp. has announced that James Harper and William Harris have joined the company’s board of directors. Harper retired after a 30-year career with Eli Lilly and Co. Harris brings 20 years of experience in the financial industry to the board of Phenomix, including 16 years of financial management work in the life sciences industry. Harris serves as senior vice president of finance and chief financial officer at Xenoport Inc. in Santa Clara.


Law

Wendy Behan, an associate with Casey Gerry Schenk Francavilla Blatt & Penfield LLP, has been elected to the position of secretary of the Lawyers Club of San Diego. She will be in charge of the organization’s meeting minutes and other record-keeping activities.


Media and Marketing

AM Strategies, a retail marketing solutions company, has hired Dan Huslin as director of research and business development. Huslin will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities for the agency. Previously, Huslin was the marketing manager for International Demographic.

The San Diego Ad Club has announced that Andreas Roell will serve a second term as president. Roell is president and chief executive officer of Geary Interactive. Greg Joumas of Jack in the Box Inc. will serve the club as vice president; Marlee Ehrenfeld of MJE Marketing will also serve as vice president; Mark McKinnon of San Diego Home/Garden Lifestyles magazine will serve as secretary; and Melissa Lopez of Castle Advertising will serve as treasurer.


Real Estate

Prudential California Real Estate has announced that Steve Rodgers, previously the company’s president and chief operating officer for Southern California, has been named president and chief executive officer.


Technology and Manufacturing

Viking Systems Inc. has appointed Robert Mathews its chief financial officer. Mathews will assume direct responsibility for all of Viking’s financial activities and work closely with other senior staff members on strategic initiatives. Before joining Viking, Mathews was senior vice president and chief financial officer at Cardinal Health’s Clinical Technologies and Services segment, where he was responsible for the global finance function. Previously, Mathews served as vice president of finance and chief accounting officer for Alaris Medical Systems.

General Dynamics Nassco has promoted Kevin Graney to vice president of engineering. Graney served as director of quality assurance since joining the company in 2006. Before joining Nassco, he was the program manager of capital projects and metrics associated with the Virginia-class submarine program at the General Dynamics Electric Boat subsidiary.
