Executive Spotlight: Jamie Awford

Turner Construction Co. has promoted Jamie Awford to vice president/general manager of the San Diego office. He joined Turner San Diego in 2003 as business development manager and most recently served as the business unit manager. Awford has worked in the construction industry for the past 17 years in Arizona, California, Oregon and Washington.


Banking and Finance

San Diego National Bank has promoted Joylyn Keil to vice president, commercial lending officer. She is responsible for originating and managing a portfolio of commercial real estate loans. Keil was assistant vice president in the commercial lending department. The company promoted Evan Huckabay to commercial loan officer/relationship manager. Huckabay joined SDNB in 2005 as a credit analyst and will now be responsible for analyzing new financing requests and maintaining existing commercial banking relationships.


Construction and Design

Turner Construction Co. has promoted Jason Bakke to financial manager. Bakke began his career with Turner in 1998 and transferred to San Diego in 2004 as senior cost engineer.

Roel Construction Inc. has re-hired Sherman Gaines as regional safety director. Gaines originally joined Roel in 2004. He has more than 15 years of experience in construction safety.


Government and Nonprofit

Fresh Start Surgical Gifts has named Francesca Supple to its board of directors. Supple is one of the top five representatives in the United States for Merck & Co. Inc. pharmaceutical company, and is also affiliated with San Diego Family Services as a certified life coach.


Health Care and Biotech

Scripps Health has promoted Brad Ellis to assistant general counsel. Ellis will have primary responsibility for certain areas of Scripps’ legal office. Ellis has been corporate counsel at Scripps since 1998.


Miscellaneous

Molly Lipsher has been named manager of Economics Research Associates’ San Diego office. She will coordinate activities in the San Diego region to define appropriate land use and real estate development strategies. Lipsher has expertise in the acquisitioning and repositioning of real estate and was previously principal of the New York-based firm the Property Research Group.

Tom Afzal has joined the board of directors at the San Diego State University College of Business Administration. Afzal is currently the president and chief executive officer of Spinal Kinetics Inc., which he co-founded in 2003. He has launched companies in the United States and Europe and has raised more than $100 million from venture capitalists and corporate investors.

San Diego Convention Center Corp. has named Cheryl Kendrick its new chairwoman, and Chris Cramer its new vice chair. Kendrick most recently served as campaign director for the United Way of San Diego County where she was responsible for the nonprofit organization’s annual fund-raising campaign. She is a marketing and community relations professional. Cramer, chief executive officer and co-founder of Karl Strauss Brewing Co., has more than 15 years of experience in the microbrewery field.


Law

Baker & McKenzie has appointed partner Kandace Watson and associate Stefan Spich to its Corporate and Securities Practice Groups’ San Diego office. Watson is experienced in domestic and cross-border capital-raising transactions, initial public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance. Spich is a first-year associate with the firm, and his practice focuses on general corporate and securities matters.

Foley & Lardner LLP has promoted senior counsel Douglas H. Carsten to partner. Carsten, of the company’s San Diego office, is a member of the intellectual property department, the intellectual property litigation practice and the life sciences industry team.


Real Estate

Burnham Real Estate Oncor International has named Matt Strockis a senior vice president of the company’s North County office in Carlsbad. Strockis has more than 20 years of commercial real estate experience in San Diego County and Mexico and will specialize in the leasing and sale of office and industrial/research and development properties throughout North San Diego County.


Technology and Manufacturing

Sequenom Inc. has named Steven Owings vice president of commercial development, prenatal diagnostics. Owings will lead the company’s commercialization of its non-invasive prenatal diagnostic technology. He has more than 28 years of business leadership experience in the diagnostics and biotechnology industries.
