RNs Reach Tentative Contract

Registered nurses at University of California medical centers have settled a long-standing contract dispute with a tentative agreement.

The three-year contract will be voted on this week at UC sites, according to the Oakland-based California Nurses Association. The nonprofit represents the 10,000 nurses statewide who will be covered by the agreement.

Contract terms include a 6 percent salary increase this year, limited mandatory shift rotations (when nurses work the day and night shifts consecutively), and pension and health protection for retired RNs.

For UC medical centers in San Diego and Irvine, there will be additional equity adjustments because the nurses there are the lowest paid in the statewide system.
