San Diego-based RJC Architects has been awarded a $14 million contract to design a new lodging facility at Camp Pendleton. In partnership with Bonsall-based RQ Construction, RJC will design and build the structure to have 69 rooms, a courtyard and play area, and picnic site. The 50,662-square-foot, four-story lodge will be adjacent to the existing South Mesa Club where guests can dine and have access to recreational activities, as well as conference and meeting facilities. Construction is expected to begin in July 2008 with completion slated for June 2009.

Construction is completed on the WestAir Gases & Equipment facility at 1590 W. Frontage Road in Chula Vista. This new structure is the company’s sales facility for the South Bay area of San Diego County. It includes a building for both the merchandising and demonstration of the full line of the company’s welding products. It will also serve as a central warehouse. Matalon Architecture & Planning was the architecture firm in charge of the project. Melhorn Construction served as the general constructor.

Vista-based Sun Country Builders has broken ground on the Villa Nueva Community Center in San Ysidro. The three-story, 21,000-square-foot building will serve the 398-unit Villa Nueva apartment community, the largest affordable housing preservation project in the state. It will provide education, social services and childcare facilities for the apartment community. Completion is anticipated in January 2009.

Capstone Advisors, a San Diego-based real estate investment, development and management firm, is expanding its services to include the purchase of subperforming and nonperforming real estate secured loans and assets of all collateral types throughout the western United States, including individual loans ranging from $1 million to $25 million and loan portfolios ranging from $10 million to $250 million. Loans can include assets in litigation, foreclosure or bankruptcy.

Brooks Brothers will occupy nearly 14,000 square feet on the first floor of the 1055 Wall Street building in La Jolla owned by Washington, D.C.-based Madison Marquette, an investor, developer and operator of retail and retail mixed-use real estate throughout the United States. The new flagship location will be Brooks Brothers’ first in the region and is slated to open in fall 2008. Madison Marquette also secured a lease with Brooks Brothers for its new Brooks Brothers Country Club concept store at Garden Walk in Anaheim, Calif. Garden Walk, an upscale mixed-use project, is scheduled to open soon with 439,000 square feet of retail space.
