Restaurants to Host Summertime Block Parties in the Gaslamp

In an effort to boost early Friday night business, the Gaslamp Quarter Association will hold free happy hour music block parties in June and July.

Sponsored by Milwaukee-based Miller Brewing Co., the Miller Lite lounge will be located at 5th and Island and will be open from 4:30 to 7 p.m., according to a release from the association.

Each week, a restaurant will sponsor music in the “lounge.” Dick’s Last Resort launched the series on June 2, hiring the band Private Domain to play classic rock that evening.

Each week, the lounge is planned to have appetizers, wine and beer, and will have velvet couches and overstuffed chairs.

“This concept is unique in that it captures the ambiance of an indoor lounge and recreates it on the streets of the Gaslamp Quarter,” said Teresa McTighe, the association’s executive director.

In upcoming weeks restaurants will sponsor other bands for the block party.

Cajun eatery Redfish will bring in Zydeco music on June 9, nightclub Club 66 will feature top-40 dance music on June 16 and Rock Bottom Brewery will feature rhythm and blues on June 23.
