Sundt Lands Contract To Renovate Quarters At Camp Pendleton
San Diego’s DPR Construction Inc. received top honors in the “customers” category of Arthur Andersen’s sixth annual Global Best Practices Awards for creating customer value in the new economy.
Arthur Andersen established the award to recognize companies and nonprofits whose practices have led to outstanding performance.
The company was selected by an independent panel of business, civic and academic leaders from entries submitted by companies around the world.
DPR also has offices in Texas, Arizona, Oregon, Virginia, Washington, Oregon, Singapore and throughout California.
The San Diego office of Sundt Construction Inc., Southern California has been awarded a $6.47 million contract to completely renovate two bachelor enlisted quarters at Camp Pendleton.
As part of the task order, Sundt will provide seismic upgrades and quality of life improvements to two identical structures that total 80,000 square feet. New cabinetry and solid surfacing, air conditioning, fire sprinklers and modernized plumbing, piping, electrical and communications systems will be completed in October 2002.
Major subcontractors on the project include local companies Gould Electric, David Shoposnick Mechanical, Certified Air Conditioning, Arrow Fire Sprinkler, HLC Drywall and Critical Cleaning/Collier Demolition.
Sundt recently completed construction of a $2.6 million, 22,000-square-foot community center and guardhouse at Ryland Oasis in Menifee. Ryland Oasis is a $230 million senior residential community in Riverside County.
Knitter & Associates of Newport Beach was the architect; structural engineer was Van Dorpe Chou Associates Inc. of Orange; mechanical engineer was Krusic and Associates of Santa Ana and Karjala; GLP and Associates Inc. of Costa Mesa served as electrical engineer.
Augustine Miller Design Studio of San Diego recently completed interior design for Sunrise Bank of San Diego’s new location on Executive Drive in the Golden Triangle.
Augustine Miller provided programming, interior design, space planning, construction documentation, furniture, artwork, signage specifications and project management services for the $330,000 tenant improvement project. Architectural elements include a colonnage with Italian wall sconces, feature walls with varying heights, shapes and accent colors.
Other subcontractors on the project included local businesses Pacific Rim Mechanical, Neal Electric and Spooners Woodworks. Artwork was provided by Solana Beach-based Susan Street Fine Art.
San Diego’s Pacific Coast Foam recently completed an “olde world” fa & #231;ade project for the University of San Diego’s new Jenny Craig Pavilion.
Pacific Coast Foam’s ornate customs architecture accents the exterior of the 5,000-seat, 101,000-square-foot arena. The shapes and details, including crown moldings, columns, arches and fa & #231;ades, are constructed of high-density, expanded polystyrene foam.
Many local companies worked on the pavilion, including architects Mosher/Drew/Watson/Ferguson, who designed the arena; general contractor Sundt Construction and Plastering Specialties, which handled the exterior coating.
El Cajon-based Sully-Jones Roofing Co. recently completed installation of nearly 20,000 square feet of new shake, shingle and flat roofing on the Town & Country Hotel resort complex in Mission Valley.
The company already replaced about 200,000 square feet of roofing on several major resort structures over the past three years, including the meeting house and maintenance and storage buildings.
Sully-Jones also finished the re-roofing of the Pacific Plaza Shopping Center in Pacific Beach. About 16,400 square feet of roofing was replaced.
Kvaas Constructors, Inc. of San Diego was recently awarded the Mission Valley Branch Library project by the city of San Diego. Construction of the 19,760-square-foot project is estimated to be completed in February 2002. Total cost of the project is projected to be $5.13 million.
The builder also was awarded a contact to construct a Humanities, Languages & Multicultural Studies Building Project for San Diego Mesa College. This project will cost approximately $7.05 million and is slated for completion in late 2002.
Local firms Wheeler Wimer Blackman & Associates will serve as architects, KTV & A; will be the landscape architect, Martin & Martin Inc. will be the civil and structural engineers, Gem Engineering will be mechanical engineers and Van Buuren Kimper will serve as electrical engineers.
San Diego’s Architectural Concepts, Inc. recently completed two Thomas Kinkade art galleries in Horton Plaza and Fashion Valley Center. The galleries include classical design elements, keeping with the artist’s traditional style.
The Fashion Valley location features rust-toned slate in neoclassical style while the Horton Plaza location features a custom wood fa & #231;ade with Greek design. Shadow box windows for display and high-tech lighting make for a museum-like atmosphere for the galleries, which are now open.
Renovations on the landmark California Western School of Law have been completed by San Diego’s Platt/Whitelaw Architects. Students and staff are now enjoying a new 110-seat lecture hall with state-of-the-art audio visual capacity. Improvements on existing buildings also took place. A new exterior finish scheme and street improvements help unify the buildings.
Other local companies involved in the project included Turpin & Rattan, McParlane and Burkett & Wong. Des Moines’ Taylor Ball and Palatine, Ill.’s Dohn & Associates were also team members.
Irvine’s Ware & Malcomb Architects recently completed a 53,284-square-foot building for the Mexport Business Center in Otay Mesa. The general contractor for the project was San Diego’s R.G. Petty Construction. The project is a part of a master planned 320,000-square-foot business park.
R.G. Petty reports that construction is nearing completion at Parkway Centre Five. The 80,878-square-foot concrete tilt-up building is at 14020 Stowe Drive in the Parkway Business Centre in Poway.
Parkway Centre Five is being developed by Parkway Centre Four Investors, LLC, a division of San Diego’s McMillin Commercial and Hillwood Development Corp.
The building was designed by San Diego’s KMA Architecture & Engineering.
