Lindbergh Field Boosts New British Airways Facilities
Corky McMillin Cos. has begun demolition, hazardous materials abatement and remediation of properties from the former Naval Training Center property.
The last tenants of NTC moved off the property earlier this month. They included the Peninsula Athletic Club, the Natural History Museum’s storage facilities, and Abiding Place Ministries.
“(The) most responsible, fastest and safest way for our team to redevelop NTC includes limiting access onto impacted areas of the base while under construction,” said Walter Heiberg, project manager for McMillin.
Heiberg said Gate 1 at Lytton Street and Barnett Avenue will be reopened to provide access to the waterway and the Sail Ho Golf Course.
Sail Ho Golf Course at NTC will continue its interim lease and remain open during the construction.
Pacific Building Group completed the construction of a new 4,800-square-foot British Airways Terraces Lounge at Lindbergh Field.
The project consisted of first- and club-class lounge areas, champagne and wine bars, a reception counter, computer workstations, restrooms, class partition walls, administrative offices, food preparation and service areas.
The lounge features a private salon for first-class passengers and a business center with telephones, two large-screen televisions and Internet kiosks.
The $750,000 project also included the renovation of the former baggage claim area in Terminal 2 East for British Airways.
Other companies on the project included Mission Valley Cabinets, Persky Plumbing, OneSource, EnCompass, Prism and Paramount Tile.
Douglas E. Barnhart, Inc. started the renovation and addition to Cardiff Elementary School last month. Special features will include classrooms, a media center and administrative offives for the school. The project is scheduled for completion in May.
After the completion of Cardiff Elementary, Ada Harris Elementary School, a $13.5 million project, is scheduled for construction immediately. Currently, Ada Harris Elementary is operating as a temporary school campus.
HMC Architects is the designer/builder of both projects. Other design consultants included Structural Affiliates, structural engineers; Syska & Hennessy, mechanical engineers; Johnson Consulting, electrical engineers; and Nowell & Associates, landscape engineers.
Sundt Construction Inc.’s San Diego office began construction of two buildings totaling 42,425 square feet and a 52,391-square-foot parking structure at La Jolla Presbyterian Church. The project also includes tenant improvements to the existing facility.
The two new buildings will be used for administrative offices and a family life center.
San Diego-based companies involved on the project include KMA Architects, Hope Engineering and Partners Planning.
DMK of Tustin completed construction of a 107,000-square-foot mixed-use retail and office space in San Marcos. The property is now called 78 Place and owned by Newport Beach-based CT Realty Corp. It was formerly the Factory Outlet Mall.
“We bought this property after the Factory Outlet Mall went out of business,” said John Valentine, senior vice president of acquisitions at CT Realty. “We were able to achieve our design vision for this property and make it a convenient and great place to do business for retail and tenants alike.”
The 78 Place project costs $1.2 million, which divided the facility into 45,000 square feet of retail space and 62,000 square feet of office space. In addition DMK also renovated the two-level parking structure attached to the rear of the building.
