Qualcomm’s Jacobs Takes Chairman’s Role at National Academy

The National Academy of Engineering said May 15 that it has named Irwin M. Jacobs to a two-year term as chairman, effective July 1. Jacobs is co-founder and chairman of Qualcomm Inc. He succeeds Craig Barrett, chairman of Intel Corp.

The academy, based in Washington, D.C., was founded in 1964 under the charter of the National Academy of Sciences. With its sister organization, the National Academy of Engineering advises the federal government.
