Proposition B Wins; Voters Want to Review Pension Benefits

With the passage of Proposition B on Nov. 7, voter approval is required before pension benefits for San Diego city employees can be raised.

The proposition amends the city charter so that, after being approved by the City Council, any increase in retirement system benefits for public employees will then be subject to San Diego voter approval.

The proposition won with 70 percent of the voters voting “yes.”

Mayor Jerry Sanders backed the measure.
